Shevi Love released her eponymous solo debut EP in 2018. It earned her a place on the ballot for the 39th Tejano Music Awards as Best New Female Artist, but many don’t know the singer battles for her life after a cancer diagnosis.

“They discovered that I had Thymoma cancer which is cancer of the Thymus gland and some of the immune system,” Love told KZTV 10.

Love had a softball-sized tumor embedded right behind her sternum. Doctors removed the sack around her heart and half her lung and started immediate radiation.

Love was given a five to eight-year lifespan, but this month she will have outlived that timeline. The Corpus Christi-based singer isn’t cancer-free yet and struggles at times with physical activities, including performing on stage.

“So now I live with constant pain in my chest and I can feel it shift, I can’t go swimming I can’t give big hugs I can’t do a lot of things,” Love told KZTV 10. “Especially being on stage moving around by the end of the afternoon I’m in so much pain.”

The top five official nominees for Best New Female Artist will be announced by the Tejano Music Awards soon and Love hopes to be one of those nominees.

“Just the fact that I know I’m going to be up there on the big screen and people are going to be hoping that we won it’s just exciting,” said Love.

The 39th annual Tejano Music Awards is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Scottish Rite Auditorium in San Antonio, Texas.

A San Antonio artist showed off his Selena inspired pumpkin via his Instagram account this week.

Arthur Alaquinez usually carves out portraits of retired San Antonio Spurs players but this time he wanted to do something different. He wanted to honor the “Queen of Cumbia” for the Dia de Los Muertos holiday.

Follow Tejano Nation on Instagram

The artist told mySA.com he wanted to make something to recognize the Mexican holiday, which observes late loved ones. He said he couldn’t think of a better muse to incorporate than the Tejano legend who died in 1995.

Alaquinez used a rotary tool to carve the magnificent detail into the “jack-o-lantern” using a photo of Selena taken in 1994 during a school visit. The original photo shows the late Latin music icon wearing gold hoop earrings with a beautiful smile holding a bouquet of roses.

Siggno’s latest single, ‘Yo Te Amo,’ highlights ‘Rockteño’ style, keeps romantic feel

Grupo Siggno, a dominant force in the Tejano and Norteño musical style, builds on their unique “Rockteño” sound with their latest single, “Yo Te Amo,” released Friday, Nov. 1.

The 35-second rock intro, driven by heavy drums and guitar, morphs into a romantic ranchera that features Siggno staples: charismatic vocalist and accordionist Jesse Turner‘s soulful, impassioned vocals and emotional lyrics about love that will leave listeners — females, definitely — swooning.

“Yo Te Amo” follows this popular formula of skilled vocals and romantic lyrics but builds on Siggno’s distinctive sound. A few listens and the chorus will stay in your head: “Que te amo demasiado, y que no puedo estar sin ti, Que mi alma se ha apagado, desde que no estas aqui…”

Siggno’s latest website post in early August announces: “Siggno Working On New Album In Studio,” and shows guitarist Chris Perez in the studio for a brief clip.

Teasers like this leave Siggno fans anxiously awaiting the next single and the entire album to see what the popular, successful group will do next and where the music will take them and their legion of faithful fans.

The group’s upcoming album has big shoes to fill as Siggno’s last album, 2018’s “Monstruo,” featured production by Ricky Munoz of Intocable on a couple of tracks and the album topped iTunes Latin albums rankings just hours after its release.

“Yo Te Amo” is available now at all digital music platforms.

Legendary Tejano singer and songwriter Humberto “Beto” Ramon lost his family home to a fire on Saturday night.

KIII-TV reports Ramon and his musician son, Beto Ramon Jr, were hosting a barbecue at their Corpus Christi, Texas home of 16 years when they smelled smoke that wasn’t coming from the grill. The son ran into the home and noticed his room was on fire and told everyone to get out of the house and call 9-1-1, while he tried to save their irreplaceable music productions stored on an external hard drive from their home studio.

“I might have lost the material things, but I have my son alive and well and I’m breathing so what else can I ask,” Beto Ramon Sr. told KIII-TV. “Everything else can be replaced.”

Firefighters believe the fire was started by an electrical spark, according to KIIITV.com.

Joe Lopez has been away from the music scene for over a decade and is preparing a return to music. His new record label, Monterrey Music, made that announcement last month.

Now Lopez is even closer to releasing new music, as a group of musicians recorded three songs in the Monterry Music recording studios, according to a social media post by Sandra Vallejo, Lopez’s manager.

“Joe Lopez MAZZ and I would like to announce to the WORLD how grateful we our for our blessing to have such talented musicians join our #teamlopez,” she said. “Joe Lopez is very grateful for the return of Alberto Gonzalez, Ben Ramos and Danny Rodriguez, he is excited to have Juaquin Cura and Aaron Holler on board to enjoy our beautiful journey and to be beside Joe making HISTORY!”

“We had an amazing couple of days in our STUDIO (Monterrey Music) the ability to record three beautiful songs was very productive,” added Vallejo. “Joe and I thank you all for working so hard and for the LOVE you all have for The King of Tejano, Joe Lopez.”

According to a post on the official Grupo Mazz de Joe Lopez Facebook page, fans can expect the new music soon.

Lopez was a part of legendary Grupo Mazz, one of the most popular groups in Tejano music, recording hit songs “No Te Olvidare,” “Estupido Romantico,” “Ven Devorame Otra Vez”, “Que Me Lleven Canciones,” and many more.

Lopez was paroled in March 2018 after he served 12 years of his 32-year prison sentence for multiple sex offenses involving his 13-year-old niece. The singer has always maintained his innocence and is working towards exoneration.
