Clarissa Molina wins “MQB All Stars” and receives $25,000 for Monumento Viviente de Nueva York Foundation

MIAMI, February 10, 2019 — In its star-studded finale on Sunday night, “Mira Quién Baila All Stars” crowned fan favorite Clarissa Molina the winner.  Actress/singer Amara La Negra came in second, followed by El Dasa and Pedro Moreno in third and fourth place respectively.

Only three percentage points separated the winner and finalist, both Dominican, in what producers call the most tightly contested final rounds in the seven-season history of the mega-hit dance competition where celebrities dance for charity.

Molina, with 30 percent of votes cast by viewers via the Univision Conecta app, edged out Amara La Negra’s 27 percent to win $25,000 for Monumento Viviente de Nueva York Foundation, which supports educational and humanitarian efforts in the Dominican Republic. Amara La Negra won $15,000 for the Dominican Women’s Development Center, which works to empower women and advance gender equality.

Regional music superstar El Dasa, with 23 percent of votes cast, won $10,000 for the César Chávez Foundation. Cuban-American actor and model Pedro Moreno (20 percent) will donate his $5,000 to the Mother of Christ Catholic Church and School in Miami.

The final four contestants, also determined by audience vote, were narrowed to two, who performed a final routine before co-hosts Chiquinquirá Delgado and Javier Poza announced the winner.

Molina, Miss Dominican Republic 2015 who stars opposite Ozuna in the feature film “Qué León!,” joins the ranks of other Univision personalities who graced the “Mira Quién Baila” dance floor.  Puerto Rican actor/singer/host Johnny Lozada won Season 4 in 2013.  Mexican co-host of “Despierta América” Ana Patricia Gámez placed second in Season 5 in 2017.  Both Lozada and Gámez returned to the MQB stage in tonight’s final as partners to Molina and El Dasa, respectively, in the closing numbers of the show.

Last season’s winner, Colombian actress/singer Greeicy Rendón, also shared the stage with Pedro Moreno; and Cuban-American Olympic gymnast Danell Leyva, who placed third in Season 5, partnered with Amara La Negra.

At the start of this season, eight contestants faced the music as judges YuriDayanara Torres (Season 5 winner), and Beau “Casper” Smart evaluated their performances and tagged some for elimination.  The celebrities were paired with professional dancers under the direction of master choreographer Rodrigo Basurto.  The charities benefiting from a total of $75,000 in prize money were determined by the dancers themselves and represent causes to which they are personally committed.

The characteristically spectacular “MQB All Stars” pulled out all the stops in the season finale with performances by Natti Natasha (“Me Gusta,” “Sin Pijama”) the most nominated artist in the upcoming Premio Lo Nuestro (February 21 on Univision), and Regional Mexican legend Gerardo Ortiz(“EL Aroma de Tu Piel”).

DeAnda spoke to Tejano Nation radio affiliate Fierro 107.5 HD2 and morning co-host JD “Bo Leo” Gonzalez about what’s next for the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Famer. He has constructed a new band and is ready to hit the stage in 2019 with classic hits and new music.

RELATED: Jaime DeAnda to ‘reclaim his destiny’ as he opens next chapter on his career

DeAnda spoke about the decision to move on from Los Chamacos after over 30 years together with many successful albums and hit songs.

“We gave it a heck of a run and so many years,” DeAnda said. “We’ve parted our ways, trying to keep it professional and you know things happen for a reason and sometimes you try to do as much as you can, but when you need to move on or make a change that’s the biggest decision that you’re gonna make.”

The break up was a surprise to many fans.

“A lot of ’em, of course, were ‘Ah, I can’t believe it, why would you do this and do that’, and it’s easy to say stick around whatever job you have or wherever you were in the past,” he added. “But when you want to move on and you think it’s time for the right choice or to do something better, you gotta take that risk. You gotta take that chance.”

Los Chamacos have also moved on and began performing with guest vocalists and accordionists.

“Un Traguito De Tequila” is the latest single from the dynamic group of five sisters known as Las Fenix, released on February 1.

Recently, the Houston, Texas-based band spoke with Tejano Nation about their latest single and how it really grew on them to become one of their top songs to perform.

“When we first heard it, it was not love at first listen, but it definitely grew on us,” said Nadia Rodriguez. “Now it has become our top song at the moment.”

Following the push for their new single, the group did share with us details for their upcoming music video set to be released on February 12 at 4 PM CT on Univision’s daily news magazine show “Primer Impacto.”

While they have been pushing the release for this single they are also looking into the future quickly as they are working on their international fan base.

“We are actually, currently working on going to Mexico City.” shared Lesli Rodriguez. “It has always been one of our biggest dreams to perform, and be more constant in Mexico. ”

The group did also leak that there is another single in the works to be released, but no further information was given regarding the new single itself.

However, in an exciting turn, they did share that they are planning to release a new album sometime this year. The group already has three tracks for that album, but before releasing it they want to focus on releasing singles individually.

Fans interested in the latest news on the group can find more information on LasFenix.com, Las Fenix on Facebook, and Las Fenix on Instagram.

Los 2G’s Ruben Y Hector release debut single ‘Como Una Cualquiera’ [AUDIO]

Ruben Garza and Hector Gonzalez are together once again, known now as Los 2G’s Ruben Y Hector, and they released their debut single, “Como Una Cualquiera,” on Friday. It’s the lead single from the duo’s new album Juntos Otra Vez released in January on via CHR Records.

Garza was singing with the legendary Ruben Vela at a very early age. As lead vocalist for Los Dos Gilbertos, he crossed paths with Rick Garcia, CHR Records President, in 1979. From that day til present, Garcia has been producing the majority of Garza’s recordings, whether as vocalist for Los Dos Gilbertos to his reunion with Ruben Vela.

RELATED: Ruben Garza and Hector Gonzalez reunite as Los 2Gs

Upon the formation of CHR Records in 2018, Garcia invited Garza to come on board as a recording artist.

“I am a fan first,” said Garcia, “and a label exec second.”

Garza was among the first to join the CHR family of artists, and during the production of the album, Garza re-associated himself with Gonzalez, a vocalist and accordion player who had performed with Ruben Garza in the past.

Garcia notes that both Garza and Gonzalez are very talented musicians and both have had successful solo careers, there was magic when both came together in the recording studio.

“It was the most natural partnership I’ve ever seen,” Garcia said. “It sounded as if they had been performing together for decades.”

Come to find out that as a young musician, Gonzalez grew up listening to the music of Ruben Vela and Los Dos Gilbertos, so performing in the style of Los Dos Gilbertos comes naturally, as well as performing accordion in other variations.

“It’s the real deal,” Garcia added. “The iconic Ruben Garza has recorded more than 75 full albums and countless 45 rpm’s. He has perhaps the most recognized voice in Conjunto history. We at CHR Records could not be happier with Los 2G’s Ruben Y Hector”.

When asked about the closely associated name Los 2G’s with Los Dos Gilbertos, Garcia said, “Both Ruben Garza and Hector Gonzalez have last names that end with a “G”, therefore 2G’s…fits like a glove. This is in no way meant to diminish the tradition of Los Dos Gilbertos. I was Gilberto Garcia’s producer as well. He was a legend. No one will ever be able to take his place.”

Los 2G’s Ruben Y Hector stand on their own talents and merits.

Los Cucuys de Rodney Rodriguez have released the title cut from their sophomore album Si No Me Quieres on CHR Records.

Rodriguez is no stranger to the world Conjunto music, as he began performing as an accordionist with Los Fantasmas Del Valle while still in his teens and remained with the group for almost two decades.

Rodriguez formed Los Cucuys in 2017, and within one short year, this Rio Grande City native became one of the most in-demand Conjunto artists on the circuit today, performing to sell-out crowds on a weekly basis.

In 2018, Rodriguez was among the first to sign with newly formed Harlingen, Texas-based record label CHR Records. President and producer Rick Garcia commented, “I’ve been working with Rodney for years since I also used to produce for Los Fantasmas. When Rodney stepped out on his own, I saw how the people were responding to his music. I had to make the call and talk to him personally. We were in the studio a few weeks later recording his first album.”

His latest single, “Si No Me Quieres,” is the title cut from the new album. It is receiving great airplay throughout the United States and plans are in the works for more tours in the future. Look for great things from this young but seasoned Conjunto performer.

Carlos Y Los Cachorros release ‘Corazon de Piedra’ from upcoming album

Carlos Y Los Cachorros released their latest single “Corazon de Piedra” on Thursday (Feb. 14).

The tune from the band’s upcoming 13th studio album is an action-packed musical arrangement, with a commercial melody, beautiful lyrics, a twist of style and 100% CYLC!

“I’m excited every time we release a new song but not like this,” frontman Carlos Rodriguez said. “This time it’s different. I feel in my heart and soul that this song is the real deal!”

So much has gone into the musical career of Carlos Y Los Cachorros. Established in 1995, the Pearsall, Texas band have recorded numerous hits and successful albums.

In the early ’90s at the age of 15, Rodriguez was a member of the popular Tejano band Centella as an accordionist, keyboardist, and backup vocalist. During that time he learned about the struggles on the road, but all that went away the moment he set foot on stage.

As the years went on Rodriguez set his goals on starting a band of his own. CYLC signed on with Joey Records in 1996 recording nine albums, then signing with Univision Music Group for one album, Me Dejaste Solo, and two albums with their own independent label Discos Solcar with plans to release their 13th studio album in just a few months.

Carlos Y Los Cachorros is an established and humble band that has definitely had their shares of ups and downs. Like anyone else, they made mistakes as teens coming into the business to maturing into professionals that understand the sacrifice of being on the road, holding a band together, paying your dues, playing in the smallest of venues to the biggest of venues, opening shows, headlining shows, wins, and losses.

Bands have come and gone but Carlos Y Los Cachorros continue to hone their craft and continue to pursue their dreams of making music.

“Corazon de Piedra” is available now at all digital music platforms.

Stripes Stores will release three limited-edition, collectible cups featuring Selena, known as the “Queen of Cumbia”.  The 2019 Selena commemorative collectible cups will be sold at participating stores in Texas and Louisiana while supplies last.

Stripes officials have said they expect the cups to go fast. Selena fans will be able to purchase the first of three unique cup designs Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. – limit two per person, while supplies last. Customers and Selena fans may begin lining up at participating Stripes stores as early as 8 a.m. Feb. 23, prior to the 10 a.m. release.

To publicize the cup launch, Stripes released a video today on Facebook revealing the first of the three 2019 designs, along with information on when and where to purchase. New designs will be released in March and April to complete the three-cup collection. The official release dates will be announced later this month.

Company officials worked with Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, to create the three designs for the 2019 collection featuring the music legend.

“We are excited to work yet again with Stripes on these beautiful commemorative cups for the fans,” said Quintanilla, CEO of Q Productions. “Selena definitely continues to inspire us all, and this is just a small gesture to help celebrate her amazing Legacy that will be celebrated in her hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas, on April 12 and 13 at Fiesta De La Flor.”

The first cup design is called “Queen of Cumbia” and features a nod to pop art with a retro-look around a black and white sketch of Selena. This year’s cups hold either hot or cold beverages and are double wall-insulated, dishwasher safe and BPA free.

“We are honored to collaborate again with Suzette, Selena’s sister, on the release of the 2019 Selena commemorative cup collection,” said 7-Eleven (Stripes) Senior Vice President, Brad Williams.  “Selena is such an inspiration to our customers and her fans. We look forward to bringing all three of these beautifully designed, high-quality Selena cups to our customers. We encourage Selena fans to get their cups early, while supplies last.”

Stripes is a founding sponsor of the fifth annual Fiesta De La Flor (FDLF), a two-day event held in Corpus Christi, Texas, honoring the life and legacy of Selena Quintanilla. This year’s FDLF is April 12-13, the superstar’s hometown.

Selena fans will have an opportunity to purchase the entire 2019 three-cup collection, while supplies last, at the Laredo Taco Company® food trailer during the event. It will be located at Stripes La Plaza on the event grounds. The limit is two sets of cups per customer, while supplies last.

For updates and information on the sale of the Selena cups both at Stripes and FDLF, visit the Stripes Facebook page. The official hashtag is #SelenaStripesCup.

“We love working with Stripes and are delighted that fans have a chance to add these three beautiful cups to their Selena collections,” said Paulette Kluge, CEO of the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The 2019 Selena commemorative collectible cups are a limited-edition, limited-supply item, and Stripes officials are expecting the cups to sell out quickly. Customers are encouraged to review the Selena cup FAQs regarding the release and sale of the cups. They can be found at www.stripesstores.com/Selena.
