A social media post on Monday put Tejano music fans in a frenzy after it mentioned that former Mazz frontman Joe Lopez would be at the 2019 Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair on March 15 in San Antonio, Texas.

The Facebook post by Sandra Vallejo, manager of Lopez, said:

Thank you TTMA Joe and I are so grateful to be a part of 2019 TTMA FAN FAIR – The King of Tejano Joe Lopez MAZZ is on his way BAAACCCK”

The post had fans thinking that Lopez would be performing at the annual event. According to Felix Mendoza of the Texas Talent Musicians Association (TTMA), organizers of the annual TMA Fan Fair, Lopez will not be performing at Fan Fair.

“As of now he is not making an appearance,” Mendoza confirmed to Tejano Nation.

Another source confirmed to Tejano Nation that Lopez will not be at Fan Fair, nor will be performing, but “we will be doing a video of him and play it during Fan Fair. His manager will be there.”

Lopez was released on parole in March 2018, after more than 11 years in prison for sex crimes. Tejano Explosion has decided to cancel this year’s event after organizers were “not able to find a suitable venue” for the annual event held during San Antonio’s Fiesta celebration.

“We were not able to find a suitable venue for this year,” said a message posted on the event’s website. “However we are hoping to find one for 2020. Thank you for your continued support.”

Tejano Explosion started as a small Fiesta event over 25 years ago. It has evolved over the years into the “Must See Tejano Music Event” for Tejano music lovers the world over, according to the website.

“Our event has been recognized as one of the best Tejano venues and we’re hoping that we will be able to find a suitable location in 2020,” event Co-chairs Jesse Diaz and Thelma Gonzalez said in a message to My SanAntonio.com.

For several years, the event took place just west of downtown at North Frio Street and West Houston Street, known to many as Cattleman’s Square.

MySanAntonio.com reports when VIA Metropolitan Transit purchased that property, Tejano Explosion moved to a site across the street from Market Square, but this year the organizers were informed that property had also been sold and was unavailable for lease.

The iconic Hacienda Records building in Corpus Christi, Texas that recorded many historic Tejano albums from music legends was being demolished on Wednesday.

Crews began the demolition after the building was severely damaged during Hurricane Harvey in August 2017 and sold to ERF Real Estate, a subsidiary of the Ed Rachal Foundation, a non-profit organization.

“There’s a lot of history there,” said Rick Garcia to KIII-TV. “A lot of good artists and groups gravitated toward us.”

Garcia was one-time vice president of the record label and the brother of Roland Garcia, who owned the building for decades and co-founded Hacienda Records in 1979.

Tejano music icons Gary Hobbs, The Hometown Boys, David Lee Garza, Ram Herrera, Emilio Navaira and many more recorded at the iconic studios over the years, KIII-TV reports.

Hacienda Records International is now run by Michelle Garcia, the founder’s daughter, and has relocated to San Antonio with a ribbon-cutting ceremony expected on Thursday at the new location.
