Marcus Daniels Y Algo Suave released the official music video for their latest single, “Quiero Saber” featuring Fidencia Lopez on Tuesday.

A collaboration released this week featuring many talented singers and musicians, “El Mundo Va Extrañarte,” pays tribute to late Tejano icon Jimmy Gonzalez.

Frankie Caballero Jr. wanted to pay tribute to Gonzalez, who passed away on June 6, and he turned to longtime Mazz songwriter Beto Ramon to pen this tribute.

“I got with Beto and I said, ‘You know what I have an idea’,” Caballero told Super Tejano 102.1 radio host Bonnie Hernandez. “I want you to write a song for me. You don’t need me to tell you Jimmy’s story, you’ve been working with Jimmy since before I was born…You know what to write. Don’t ask me, just write. He calls me the next day, ‘Are you ready to listen to it?’, I said ‘Ya?’ He sent it to me, I was blown away.”

The collaboration features a group of talented singers, including former Mazz backup vocalist Cristina Salinas, David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales lead vocalist Cezar Martinez, Lisa Mar of LaDezz, Sarah Monique and Ricky Guzman III, to pay homage to the legendary Gonzalez.

“We just all collaborated and tried to do the best we could to try and make it, like a Jimmy Gonzalez song,” said Salinas, “He taught us, the younger generation, the younger crowd that still wants to keep going with the old school Tejano tradition. That’s our culture.”

The collaboration also features amazing musicians, including Caballero’s father Fankie Caballero on accordion. Mazz members Jay Alaniz on guitar and bass and Cris Perales on keyboards, who also arranged the amazing song.

Gonzalez was a pioneer, a legend and multiple Grammy award winner. He co-founded Grupo Mazz in 1978 and went on to achieve international acclaim as one of the most successful Tejano groups ever.

Jimencio has returned with two versions of his new single “Hasta Mi Final,” his first release after a three year hiatus from music.

“After three long years I am finally releasing music again,” Jimencio told Tejano Nation. “This experience for me, with this particular song, was unlike any other. Working with amazing people like Josue Alaniz, Richard Rosales from Grupo Siggno and David Garza to complete this project made it unique in itself and is now one of my favorites.”

The release features two versions of the single, an acoustic version and Norteño version.

“The decision to release two versions of the song came from how beautifully the song was written,” Jimencio added. “I wanted to give it the attention to detail it deserved and I feel that we accomplished that. This isn’t the typical style you’d hear from me, but I wanted to be true to myself and create music that my people could love!”

Jimencio released his EP, Mi Ultima Disculpa, on July 6, 2015, that featured a mix of club cumbias and Latin pop hits. He plans to release more music in the near future.

“More music will come,” he said. “I want to thank all who has continued to stick by my side throughout this three year quiet period. I am forming the band again and going to get on the road as soon as possible.”

Both versions of “Hasta Mi Final” are available now at all major digital music platforms.

SAN ANTONIO — SpinXpress, a new self- and full-service laundry, will host a grand opening party this weekend featuring Grammy Award winners Los Texmaniacs, free school supplies and the expansion of its Goodwill clothing donation program.

Festivities run from 8 a.m. until 5 pm Saturday, Aug. 11, at the newest SpinXpress location, 4941 West Commerce in the Crosstowne Mercado shopping center. Grammy Award winners and Smithsonian Folkways conjunto recording artists Los Texmaniacs will play from 12 noon until 3 p.m.

Washers and dryers also will be free to use all day, along with free tacos from 10:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. Parents can also go home with free school supplies for their kids, as local school districts start classes as soon as August 13.

The new location is the third SpinXpress in San Antonio. The locally-based company also has locations at 1107 S. General McMullen and 8535 Blanco Road. Additional locations are also planned in San Antonio and beyond.

“My brothers and I grew up in San Antonio, so we’re excited to bring a radically better laundry experience and a really fun grand opening party to the neighborhood,” said Bhavin Patel of SpinXpress. “Coin laundry facilities for far too long have been mostly dingy, dirty, and not places anyone wants to be if they can avoid it. We want to show the laundry customer that we respect them by making the chore of doing their laundry much more pleasant than what they have come to expect.”

At the opening of the Blanco Road location in the spring, SpinXpress and Goodwill launched a partnership that is sending thousands of clothing items to Goodwill San Antonio. Clothing left behind at any SpinXpress in San Antonio is now being donated to Goodwill. And each location now features a Goodwill donation station strictly for donated clothing.

Since starting in April, the program has seen SpinXpress donate more than 3,000 pounds of clothing to Goodwill, which uses the donations to support Goodwill’s mission to help change lives through the power of work. Goodwill’s mascot, “Good William,” will be on hand for Saturday’s grand opening.

The new SpinXpress features staff on site at all times, 44 washers, 54 dryers, 55-inch HD televisions, free Wi-Fi, a kids fun zone, charging stations, super-clean bathrooms and a bright, safe environment. SpinXpress employees clean each washer and dryer several times daily. The facility is open 24 hours.

“Partnerships with community businesses are a vital factor to our success. We are excited to partner with SpinXpress on their innovative laundromat concept,” said Penny Benavidez, Director of Public Relations for Goodwill San Antonio. “Their focus on empowering the communities they serve is aligned with our mission to help change lives through the power of work. Every donation collected at SpinXpress helps Goodwill fund education, training and career services that empower individuals with barriers to find meaningful employment.”

In addition to self-service laundry, SpinXpress also offers a full-service option. Customers can drop off their laundry and let SpinXpress wash, dry, fold and package it for easy pickup.

Today marks eight years since the passing of Tejano and Conjunto legend Esteban ‘Steve’ Jordan.

“El Parche,” a nickname because of his trademark eye patch, could play 35 different instruments, but was known as the “Jimi Hendrix of the accordion.”

His first official recording sessions were in 1963, featuring a group fronted by the Conjunto Hall of Famer and his wife, singer Virginia Martinez. He had actually been featured on a 78 rpm recording made in San Jose, CA, in the late ’50s, part of a prize for best young Conjunto performer.

Unlike many Conjunto musicians, Jordan kept up with technological advancements, using devices such as phase shifters, fuzz boxes, and synthesizers.  He had a unique style, adding bits of fusion jazz and rock into his music.  His sound was strong and vivid, “literally jumping out of the grooves,” as one writer once described Jordan’s music.

Jordan grabbed a Grammy nomination for his album Turn Me Loose in 1986, but lost to his old friend Flaco Jimenez.

“El Parche” battled cancer for four years and died of liver complications on August 13, 2010, at the age of 71.

“August 13 marks eight years since the passing and crossing over to the cosmos of our beloved EL Jefe, the one and only original Accordion alchemist, Lyric innovator and international LATIN music world inspiration…’EL PARCHE’ Esteban ‘Steve’ Jordan,” his son Esteban Jordan III wrote on his Facebook page on Sunday. “In honor of his legacy and in celebration of his music, we encourage you to PLAY IT LOUD and sing out Tejano Proud like a prayer!”

We echo those sentiments here at Tejano Nation as we honor the Tejano and Conjunto legend on the eighth anniversary of his passing with a great tribute mix from Tejano Network’s Eddie Olivo.

Grupo Stampede accordionist Richard Cantu is recovering from emergency back surgery to repair an injury he suffered after a hit-and-run accident in March.

The musician will be out of work and off the stage for six months and a GoFundMe page has been setup by his granddaughter Gabryella Perez to help with medical and other expenses.

“In March, my grandfather’s car was struck by an eighteen wheeler, leaving his car totaled,” Perez wrote. “The eighteen wheeler fled the scene. With no information on the truck company, my grandfather continued to work…suffering from excruciating back pain.”

The pain led Cantu to seek relief from a doctor.

“He did not know how bad his condition was until last week when he saw the specialist,” she added. “The specialist admitted my grandfather into the hospital August 12 and he had to have emergency back surgery the following day.”

The surgery went well, but Cantu’s recovery process is expected to take six months.

Perez says Cantu has made countless sacrifices and donated his talent, time, and energy to other fellow bandmates and family members who have been through similar circumstances and ask for help in his moment of need. A donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated.

Formed in 1996 in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex, Stampede is known for its innovative, urban-Tejano sound that respects tradition with an energy level that compares to a “stampede,” the band’s live performances displays their versatility by mixing covers with its cumbia and ranchera originals.
