joelopezhoaxeventAn internet rumor that former Mazz frontman Joe Lopez was a making an appearance in July is a hoax, confirms the singer’s brother.

A Facebook event posted on Thursday, May 5, titled “The Return of Joe Lopez Y Grupo Mazz at Starlite Burger Parking Lot McAllen Texas,” with over 1,000 RSVPs, had fans asking if the singer had been released from prison early.

Lorenzo Lopez, the singer’s brother, said the event is a hoax.

“There is a rumor going around that he is free and working already,” Lorenzo Lopez posted on his Facebook page on Friday. “I wish it was true, but unfortunately it is not true.”

Joe Lopez remains jailed at the W.F. Ramsey Unit in Rosharon, Texas.  The singer was convicted in 2006 on multiple sex offense charges involving a minor.  He was sentenced to 32 years in prison, but because he will serve the sentences concurrently, they amount to 20 years in prison. His full prison term would end on October 27, 2026 and is eligible for parole on October 26, 2016.

“Our attorney says they are still working on his exoneration and that it takes time,” Lorenzo Lopez said. “I would like to thank all you good people that called in hopes he was released. I believe very soon he will be with us to thank you himself for all your support. But until then please try not to listen to rumors until I give you the good news that he is free.”

The Joe Lopez event hoax is just one of many this week, grocery store H-E-B debunked a rumor that Nine Inch Nail’s Trent Reznor was playing a secret show at one of their Austin locations.

8-year-old singer Mia releases ‘Mamá’ song + video for Mother’s Day

Eight-year-old singer Mia has released her latest single and video, “Mamá,” a special combination for Mother’s Day.  It’s the third single released from the young singer in the past few months. “Mamá” is a cover of the 2013 hit from Siggno.

“‘Mamá’ has been in the works since January of 2016,” Mia’s father, Chris Garcia, told Tejano Nation. “The idea started because it was Mia’s mom’s favorite song from Siggno.”

Once the idea was presented, Grammy Award winner Rick Fuentes, from Ruben Ramos and the Mexican Revolution got involved with the track.

“He agreed to produce it,” Garcia said.

Cañonazo’s Steve “Rat” Silvas, formerly of Little Joe Y La Familia, got involved in the project as well.

“Steve co-arranged the song with Rick, and had a few recitals with Mia, to make sure everything was in perfect key for her voice,” Garcia added. “We actually began production in March 2016, and finished up mid-April 2016.”

Mia recorded her vocals and then they were sent to Grammy Award winning producer James Galvez for mixing and mastering. Galvez produced artists such as Alicia Villareal, Kumbia Kings, and Frankie J, just to name a few.

For the video, Mia called upon Ryan Bazan Films to produce the music video. He produced Mia’s first two videos, “El Perdón” and “Cuando Los Angeles Lloran”.

“His ideas always make his visuals a hit,” Garcia said. “Since the song lyrics are exclusively about mothers we chose to use Mia’s mom, Yuliana Garcia, along with both grandmothers. I think that’s what makes this video very special, is that there were no actors but real family members in Mia’s life.”

The video showcases Mia engaging in different activities with both grandmothers. From start to finish, this video is guaranteed to keep your attention, and to pull at your heart. Get your tissues ready. What a perfect video and song for Mother’s Day.

“Mamá” is available at Spotify, click here.

roygarcia-quierosaberRoy Garcia recently released his newest single, “Quiero Saber,” earlier this month.

“With my single ‘Quiero Saber’, I wanted to take it back to my roots when I first started in the business,” Garcia told Tejano Nation. “When I first started in Tejano Music, I was as the lead vocalist for The Liberty Band, which is a band widely known for their Tejano orchestra sound. Although my debut CD Solo is a departure from that sound, it was important for me to incorporate a song that encompassed an orchestra vibe and pay homage to the type of music that started it all for me.”

“Quiero Saber” is produced by multi-Grammy Award nominated producer Jason Martinez from Grupo Vida.

“I had actually previously recorded a different arrangement to ‘Quiero Saber’ as a single for a CD project I had been working on, but when I decided to give it a go as a solo artist, that version with my voice was never released,” Garica added. “I had really fallen in love with this song and felt that it really fit my voice, so I told myself that when the time came to record my debut CD, that I was going to include a re-imagined arrangement to the song. With Jason Martinez’s help we came up with this amazing version that was inspired by the sounds of the Tejano Orchestra.”

“Quiero Saber,” the third single released from Garcia’s debut solo album, will be available on all major digital distributors soon and his debut album, Solo, can be purchased at Del Bravo Record Shop or ordered online at DelBravoRecordShop.com.

Tejano Nation's DJ Peaches with Art Tigerina Band in Tucson, Arizona on May 7, 2016.

Tejano Nation’s DJ Peaches with Art Tigerina Band in Tucson, Arizona on May 7, 2016.

Art Tigerina, an energetic, heart-stopping entertainer, has mesmerized thousands of Tejano fans over a span of two decades.  I had the pleasure of interviewing Art on May 7 for a Pre-Mothers Day show in Tucson, Arizona.

Art talked about how his father, Trinidad Tigerina influenced his love for music at a young age. Also handed down to the singer by his father is his first love of being an auto mechanic, his craft to provide for his family. He is largely a self-taught musician, starting with playing the drums, then taught himself how to play the guitar and saxophone. His vocal talent was discovered as a teen while singing in a rock band. Art joined his brothers band, Tierra Mala which was his initial singing introduction to Tejano music. Not long after Tierra Mala, Art started his own band Algo Suave and brought in big crowds with his high energy show was introduced.

In the early 90’s, Art moved to San Antonio. Life wasn’t easy at the beginning, going from bar to bar in hopes of a big break. Success came with the City View Band. An album entitled Vueltas y Vueltas became a hit for City View and later re-recorded with Grupo Vida. Art accepted the position as lead singer for Grupo Vida in 1997, with Eddie Gonzales’ exit from the band. Art has accomplished many milestones in the 17 years with Grupo Vida and 20 years in the music business.

Curently, Art has a new band, Art Tigerina Band. Acording to the singer, the band caters to the working man, its called Blue Collar Tejano Music, specializing in Tejano, Country, Old School, and Rock.

I asked Art about his song “High Heel Sneakers,” since it has a Country feel to it. Art replied,”It’s a Tommy Tucker tune which he added a cumbia mix to it.”

We also discussed his song “Esta Noche Quiero Llorar” released in 2007 with Grupo Vida and then re-released as part of his solo career, produced by Hugo Guerrero.

The song “Esta Noche Quiero Llorar” fit the Tucson event, as it was in honor of Danny Sanchez from the Festival Band who passed away recently. We reflected on how fitting this song is because it’s about loss, the emotion we feel when we experience a loss. The loss of Danny Sanchez is immensely felt by his family, his second family The Festival Band and all the Tejano community. A quote from Art on a previous article in Tejano Nation back in November 2015 summarizes the emotions perfectly ” I love this journey of life I am living. Don’t forget we are all here to walk each other home.”

Art also states his number one goal and what keeps them motivated is the loyalty to the fans, being humble and not just on how good they play. In conjunction with his love for music is also his love for his wife, family and God. His faith keeps him grounded.

Art is a down to earth, charismatic, energetic artist who has made his mark in Tejano. He will thrive to continue to live life and to walk each of us home thru his music. Much thanks to Art and the Art Tigerina Band for their time.

You can find out more about Art at http://www.arttigerina.com and on all social media outlets. Reverb Nation at reverbnation.com/arttigerina6. iTunes and Facebook.

FB_IMG_1462914380628Lately, the expanding popularity of the Brownsville Latin music scene has been making waves across social media and radio, notably Farra Records artists Revo Live Band and Grupo La Farra Hermanos Lozano.

Founded in 2012 by core members, Sergio and Frank Lozano, Revo Live Band is an exciting concept in music and live entertainment that incorporates a wide range of Latin music influences including Tejano, Cumbia, Rock en Espanol, Salsa, Bachata, Reggaeton, and Norteno to produce an innovative, fresh sound. Also contributing to Revo Live Band’s solid international Latin sound is experience in popular chart topping bands K1 and Big Circo. Their experiences have led to major festival tour performances and television appearances on nationwide and local shows such as Tejano y Mas, Sabado Gigante, El Gordo Y La Flaca, Domingo Live, Despierta America and Televisa’s Noreste Vespectaculos.

La farraSergio and Frank Lozano began their extensive musical education as children with their father, Francisco ‘Checo’ Lozano, respected Latin music journalist, co-founder of Grupo La Farra and CEO of Farra Records. Musical lessons started early at five years of age for the Lozano brothers. This included vocal training and learning several different instruments. A strong sense of community service and dedication to family was instilled into the Lozano brothers, with their involvement as coaches in the Brasa Youth Soccer League, organized by their parents, Fransisco ‘Checo” Lozano and Maria E.Lozano.

In 1988, the sons of Antonio Lozano, legendary bandleader of Los Bravos de Matamoros, formed the renowned and respected Brownsville, Texas band Grupo La Farra. The latest CD release from Grupo La Farra Hermanos Lozano, the highly anticipated Exitos Con Los Grandes, features the original hit composition “Corazon de Hotel” with Tejano icon Tony Guerrero de La Sombra de Chicago on guest vocals. Legendary Artists Mojado and Belen are also featured in chart topping collaborations. Farra Records Studio has welcomed various renowned international Latin music legends such as Xavier Passos, DJ Kane of Mi Stereo and Kumbia Kings and Pangie of Kumbia Kings, Los Super Reyes and Los EnVivo Kings. Ivan Sanchez, leader of upcoming Latin rock trio Tr3s, is featured on Revo Live Band’s current CD, Bailar Es Mi Vicio, with his original rock ballad “Alone.” His brilliant guitar work is also included on the original Revo Live Band composition “Pobre De Mi Corazon” featuring DJ Kane.

The continuous outpouring of musical talent from Farra records and the Valley region in general, brings to mind the phrase, El Majico Valle. The intertwining threads of the vibrant South Padre Island culture and the peaceful ambience of a coastal existence, where you are likely to see seagulls on the soccer fields, fluidly combine to create the perfect atmosphere conducive to musical creativity. Viva la Musica!
