Chris Perez performs at 2015 Fiesta De La Flor in Corpus Christi, Texas. (Tejano Nation)

This year’s Fiesta de la Flor presented by CITGO has an A-list line-up with so much talent that it’s hard to pick just a few jams.

RELATED: Fiesta De La Flor announces 2016 artist lineup, event details

From up-and-coming artists to true music legends — download these hit songs by the artists below and get ready to sing and dance your heart out at Fiesta de la Flor on May 6-7 in Corpus Christi.

  1. Isabel Marie Sanchez – This young star is the new girl in town and she is taking the music world by a storm. Her new CD properly dubbed “New Girl in Town” includes Tejano, cumbia and mariachi songs. While the CD isn’t on iTunes just yet, you can find her single “Dime Porque” which showcases her big vocals. You won’t believe she is only 13 years old!
  2. Clarissa Serna – We know her best through her recent performances on NBC’s The Voice (check out her rendition of The Cranberry’s hit song  “Zombie” on iTunes), but Clarissa has been making headlines in the music world for years. Her iTunes pop hits “Patiently Waiting” and “Hold Your Hand” will have you tapping your toes. Those who attend Fiesta de la Flor 2016 may get a sneak peek/listen at some of her new songs as she prepares to release a new CD this summer.
  3. Pete Astudillo – The simple mention of Pete Astudillo’s name brings oh so many memories! He and Selena sang side by side for so many years and he co-wrote many of Selena’s hits such as “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” and “Amor Prohibido.” Grab your tissues and listen to his hit tribute to Selena  “Como te Extraño.” Wipe away those tears and dance to his cumbia “Porque Le Gusta Bailar”  or grab your favorite dance partner and dance cheek-to-cheek to  “Ganar o Perder.”
  4. Erick y Su Grupo Massore– You can bet that Friday night at Fiesta de la Flor will be hopping when Erick y Su Grupo Massore gets on stage. If you haven’t heard of these guys before do yourself a favor and download a few of the band’s hit songs. “Electrocumbia” and  “La Cumbia de los Angry Birds” (a tribute to the video game) are just a few examples of the fun and hip sounds that this band will bring to Fiesta de la Flor. We guarantee you won’t be able to stop dancing.
  5. Ramon Ayala – Once Ramon Ayala’s accordion riffs interrupt the Friday night air you will know it’s time to grab yourself an adult beverage (or two) and prepare those vocal chords for a grito (or two) . “Tragos Amargos” will get you reminiscing about that lost love that stomped all over your heart, but don’t fret. Before you know it you will be singing about your new love with hits like  “Rinconcito en el Cielo” and “Piquito de Oro.”
  6. Jorge Moreno – This cowboy not only has the good looks, he has the best of both the Tejano and Country music worlds. You’ll be hearing a little bit of Spanish and a little bit of English with this stud. Get your two-stepping done with “He’s Got You I’ve Got Mexico” (listen for the accordion sounds) or the familiar sounding “Luz de Luna” a new rendition of Brooks & Dunn’s “Neon Moon” with a Spanish twist.
  7. Chris Perez – When heartthrob Chris Perez walks on stage with his fabulous curls and adorable smile it will be time to grab the camera. Oh and don’t forget to download the lighter app on your cell phones for this one. Chris promises some awesome tunes at this year’s Fiesta de la Flor. But keep those tissues handy. You’ll need them when he plays his Grammy-Award winning hit “Best I Can” dedicated to Selena.  #ChrisandSelenaForever
  8. David Lee Garza – Tejano music great David Lee Garza and his accordion will have you and your dance partner spinning on the festival grounds. Listen to his hit “Te Quiero, Te Amo,” a perfect mix of Tejano and Norteño music. Start practicing your cumbia moves with his popular “Tonta.”
  9. Elida Reyna y Avante – From rancheras to cumbias — Elida can sing them all. Her popular hits like ballad “Luna Llena” and ranchera “Duele” are just a few samples of this Tejano star’s vocal range. Her recent dance cumbia hit “Adicta” will be a welcome addition to your MP3 player.
  10. Ruben Ramos – There are legends, and then there are LEGENDS. Ruben Ramos, aka El Gato Negro, is a LEGEND. He comes from a music family dating back to World War I. Step back in time and revisit the classics like “Paloma Negra,” or “Oiga Comprade.” Get ready for his legendary performance at Fiesta de la Flor.
  11. Fito Olivares – When you hear the unmistakable sounds of a saxophone you’ll know that Fito Olivares is in the house! Get those toes tapping and get ready to dance the night away to cumbia after cumbia. Ready for some “Aguita de Melon?” Come on! Download a few of his songs so you that we can say that you “baila como Juana la Cubana.”
  12. La Mafia – When La Mafia hits the Fiesta de la Flor stage on Saturday get ready to fall in love with your significant other all over again. This band has too many romantic hits to name, but let’s start by swaying side to side and start singing the lyrics to “Me Estoy Enamorando,” and “Vida.”

Watch video for creation of Jacob Turner’s custom built bass

Video for the creation of the custom-made bass guitar for Jacob Turner of Siggno surfaced online this week.  The video documents the creation of the one-of-a-kind 24 carat gold plated Fender bass guitar, a gift from Atascosa-based Texas Chrome Shop, stars of reality TV show “Texas Trocas” on Discovery En Espanol, and Grupo Vision.

Turner, the 22-year-old bass player for Siggno, has been in a coma since crashing his vehicle into a guardrail at a high rate of speed in the early morning hours of February 8 in Harlingen.

Jacob’s father Jesse Turner, frontman for Siggno, shared his thoughts on the one-of-a-kind gift.

“It’s such a beautiful work of art,” Jesse posted on Facebook. “When I see the yellow I think of hope, when I see the patterns it reminds me of how electric and unique my son plays, when I see the gold it reminds me of what he means to so many people, when I see the lower part that says ‘Unidos En Oración’ it reminds me of how he has brought people together through prayer, the painting of him reminds me of his cheesy smile that makes us all smile, and the words ‘Yo Te Esperare’ signify a feeling…that we are all waiting for that day when he will recover.”

Watch this amazing gift come together right before your eyes in the video below.

“Many thanks to our great friends in the Texas Chrome Shop, Rolando Mendez, Grupo Vision and the Medina family for this beautiful gift,” Siggno posted on their official Facebook page.

Tejano Nation continues to send prayers for a speedy recovery for Jacob Turner and can’t wait to see him play the custom built bass guitar.

Tortilla Factory front man Alfredo Guerrero recently gave a replica copy of the original handwritten score of the Tejano anthem “Las Nubes” to San Antonio radio station KXTN-FM.

At the height of the Chicano Rights movement in the 1970s, Little Joe Y La Familia’s polka-ranchera “Las Nubes,” a song inspired by Cesar Chavez, became an anthem for Mexican-Americans and the United Farmworkers Movement across California.

Guerrero gave Tejano Nation some background on the iconic song and the men who were a part of its creation.

“The Tejano anthem was arranged by world class musician Joe Gallardo in the early 1970s,” Guerrero said. “Gallardo was invited to join Little Joe by his close friend Tony ‘Ham’ Guerrero.  The musicians that recorded ‘Las Nubes’ with Little Joe were assembled by Tony ‘Ham’ Guerrero.  This group of musicians later became Tortilla Factory.”

Tony “Ham” Guerrero is Alfredo Guerrero’s father and when he passed away in January 2011 at the age of 66, Alfredo took over as leader of Tortilla Factory and possession of the original handwritten score of “Las Nubes”.

“I presented a replica of this historic masterpiece in the annals of Tejano music to Mark Arias a.k.a. Homie Marco, Program Director of KXTN, in appreciation for their decades of support in promoting La Onda,” Alfredo Guerrero said.

In March, Tortilla Factory released a sequel to “Las Nubes” entitled “Mi Gente” featuring Tejano legends “El Gato Negro” Ruben Ramos, “El Charro Negro” Bobby Butler and Gallardo.

“I am ecstatic to be reaching my dreams little by little,” Ray Ray told Tejano Nation. “This single is an enormous accomplishment for me as I never imagined recording at a top notch studio so early in my solo career.”

“Ella No Eres Tu” is produced by multi-Grammy Award winning producer Gilbert Velasquez with Chente Barrera adding drums and back up vocals at Velasquez Music Studios in San Antonio.

The upbeat cumbia with a catchy melody, written by Cerda, mixes together the Tejano flavor of Anjelique and The Sweet City Band with Cerda’s accordion riffs, giving it a hint of a Regional feel.

“This was a song that was fun to record,” Anjelique told Tejano Nation. “When we laid the first tracks down in the studio it began to evolve all on its own. We hope to portray the musical diversity that Anjelique & Sweet City Band has with this song. Esteven and I have sang next to each other for years and we have fun backing each other up vocally. Also, even though this song is about ‘arguing in a relationship,’ I hope it brings the feeling of its okay to turn the page to the next chapter when it comes to being in an unhappy relationship. I’ve read before, ‘sometimes it hurts more to hold on than let go’.”

The track was recorded at San Antonio-based Slack Monster Studios with Severo “Sevy” Contreras of Texas Latino behind the mixing board, with production and guidance from Little Miss Dynamite herself, Shelly Lares and smooth melodious strings from Jimmy Garcia.

“Its been an honor and privilege to work with Anjelique and Esteven on this song,” said Slack Monster Studios CEO Contreras, “They did a great job vocally and the band did a great job musically. I’m looking forward to working on the rest of the album with Anjelique and Sweet City Band!”

“No Pienses en Volver” is available on CDBABY, and will be available on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon MP3, Spotify, and many other digital distributors as well as her official website,  AnjeliqueMusic.com, soon.

Magali Delarosa releases ‘Gracias Mamá’ song + video for Mother’s Day

magali-graciasmamaSinger and songwriter Magali Delarosa has released her latest single and video, “Gracias Mamá,” just in time for Mother’s Day.

“A very special song for all the women of the world,” Delarosa posted on the video’s YouTube page. “Thank you to all the beautiful women and mothers that inspired these words and video.”

The faith-based song was first heard by Delarosa’s father, Carlos Delarosa, at the church he attends. The church’s co-pastor, Tacho Rivera, who was the lead vocalist of the legendary Rio Grande Valley quintet Los Unicos, performs the song, written by Francisco J. Garcia, during services.

“My dad sent it to me and I immediately fell in love with the lyrics and the story behind it and told him I wanted to honor all the mothers and beautiful women of the world,” Magali Delarosa told Tejano Nation.

Her father and her engineer/band leader Mike Perez of MAP Music rearranged the song for the singer’s vocal range. “Gracias Mama” was composed in Brownsville, Texas, and recorded at Echo Studios in Riverside, California.

“I hope all that hear the song really enjoy it,” said Delarosa. “This song is also dedicated to women who take on the role of being caretakers and mothers. I feel there are many women that do not receive the recognition for playing this role in someones life because they are not considered mothers in the traditional way, and this song is from my heart to theirs.”

The beautiful and heartfelt visual was shot in Riverside, California, under the direction of Jeff Bergman with the assistance of Katie Bergman.

“I had a very specific idea I was going for with the video, and luckily found the perfect wardrobe and location,” Delarosa said. “It was very important to me that my culture was captured in the video and in the look. The video was inspired by all the women you see in the photos. I am very blessed to have a big family with wonderful women that I have looked up to, especially my mother. A special thank you to my relatives for allowing me to use their photos in the music video. This was a fun video to shoot, so far one of my favorites.”

This special project comes at a very special time in singer’s life having just signed with Tambora Records International.

“Gracias Mamá” will be available on iTunes this week and a percentage of the sales from the song will be donated to a women’s charity.

“If you have a really close-knit mom and daughter relationship, you’re totally going to relate to this song,” Elida told Tejano Nation radio affiliate La Voz 93.3.
