Fierro HD has expanded its reach to Houston solidifying its brand as the Texas Tejano Station. Fierro HD launched on Nov. 13 on KLOL 101.1 HD2.

The Houston frequency is an extension of Entercom’s Fierro HD brand that launched on KMVK 107.5 HD2 three years ago in Dallas, Texas, which is home to the Bo & Jon Morning Show and airs weekdays from 6 a.m. to noon on Fierro HD. The duo, J.D. “Bo Leo” Gonzalez and Jonny Ramirez, spent many years together in San Antonio hosting the morning show on Tejano radio station KXTN 107.5 FM.

Veteran Houston and Tejano radio personality Bo Corona will be the on-air host from noon-5 p.m weekdays. He was previously with Super Tejano 108, which later became KQQK Tejano 106.5 FM.

“It’s the first and one of its kind because what we’re doing is we’re covering the state of Texas,” Corona told Houston TV station ABC 13. “I don’t think they realize how big the Tejano audience is and now it’s getting bigger and better.”

The station will air classic Tejano mixed with today’s “Puro Tejano” hits and can also be heard online at FierroHD.radio.com and the Radio.com app.

Tejano Nation fans can also hear “Tejano Nation News” and “Tejano Nation Radio” on Fierro HD.

You may remember the iconic scene from the movie “Selena” when Chris Perez added hot sauce to his pizza, now the guitarist has launched his own signature hot sauce, Perez Pepper Sauce.

Perez and partner John Gomez worked with CaJohns Fiery Foods to develop a blend of premium peppers, spices, and ingredients to develop a balance of flavor and fire.

“It is an original recipe and the reviews have been amazing,” Perez told SALive.com. “I couldn’t be happier.”

The hot sauce debuted at an event in San Antonio on Nov. 16, where the sauce quickly sold out.

“The secret is to not make it too hot at this point, eventually I want to make another one that’s hotter,” Perez added. “This is something I want to explore further, different flavors, different products. I’m a barbecue kind of guy, so rubs, things like that.”

Perez made an appearance on the lifestyle television show “SA Live” on Tuesday to promote his new sauce and share recipes for dips, marinades and more featuring his signature sauce.

The lead singer of Severo y Grupo Fuego, New Mexico native Severo Martinez, exudes a passion and charisma that comes through in his vocals, and the single, “Me Tienes Loco,” the first from the group’s upcoming studio release, “Pura Vida,” is no exception.

The up-tempo cumbia, an original song from the band, was made for dancing and Martinez’ exuberant singing encourages listeners to get off their feet.

“Me Tienes Loco” talks about how love’s intensity can drive you “loco, loco,” but does so in an upbeat, fun style. Martinez sings with emotion, and as his website shows, he performs with just as much energy and enthusiasm. (Visit www.severoygrupofuego.com to see Severo y Grupo Fuego’s 2018 performance of “Despacito” as part of NBA’s Noche Latina during the Denver Nuggets halftime show.)

Listen to the catchy cumbia about going crazy in love and look forward to the 2020 album release of Severo y Grupo Fuego’s “Pura Vida.”

When Dee Burleson, half of Tejano music’s most well-known showbands of the genre’s heyday, Culturas (along with Delia Gonzales), stepped in front of Tejano Nation cameras at the 39th Annual Tejano Music Awards on Nov. 16, we had to ask the question.

Is he making a musical return to the Tejano industry?

Sadly for Tejano music, his answer, after repeated questioning, was, “No.”

While the charismatic and strong, versatile-voiced Burleson still has the chops, he made it clear that from his home in Denver, Colo., he is content with his participation in collaborations with Tejano artists.

So while he is not returning to Tejano music as a solo artist, fans can currently enjoy Burleson on the three collaborations that include: “Dile, Dile” with Calle Seis; “Hey Baby, Que Paso!,” a remake of the Texas Tornadoes classic with Roel Martinez from his “Soñador de Amor” album, also featuring Billy O’Rourke of David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales; and an upcoming duet with Marcus Daniels.

Burleson also spoke about feeling at home being back at the 2019 Tejano Music Awards and he even teased us a bit with a musical shout-out to Tejano Nation fans.

“Our style of music, it just depends what year you go back to,” Rodriguez said. “If we start at the beginning, Carlos y Los Cachorros, when we started in 1996, at that time, the styles were hot like Jaime y Los Chamacos, Albert Zamora. It was very aggressive on the accordion conjunto style.”

Rodriguez spoke about how the entrance of the powerhouse group, Intocable, onto the scene created a more Regional Mexican feel that led CYLC to adapt their sound.

“Our style falls in with anybody who likes accordion y bajo sexto,” Rodriguez said. “It’s got a blend of everything we like from 80’s rock-and-roll to cumbia to ranchera. You name it, we play it all.”

Rodriguez said the group plays a fusion that offers something for everyone.

He ended the interview with words for CYLC fans.

“We want to send a shout out to all the fans out there,” Rodriguez said. “We want to thank you for supporting our music. Thank you for being with us in the roughest of times and the best of times.”
