Montes was one of the many influences for Fuentes, “He’s been one of my favorite singers for many years,” Fuentes told Tejano Nation. “I remember traveling on the road with Chavela y Grupo Express I would have cassettes in my Walkman of Arturo Montes and that’s all I would listen to. The song titled “Caricia Y Herida” is a beautiful song that was originally recorded by Chavela Y Grupo Express and Ramon Flores in 1984.

It was just last December when young Tejano artist Tristan Ramos had emergency brain surgery to remove fluid that was causing him to suffer severe headaches.

The Midland, Texas native recovered very quickly from his procedure and released his debut album “El Principio” (The Beginning) on January 31, which featured the hit single, “Muevelo” with Eddie Jimenez of Da Krazy Pimpz.

Now, the 12-year-old accordionist and singer has released his latest single, “Baila Princesa,” written and produced by award-winning hitmaker Gabriel Zavala.

Ramos was excited to work with Zavala according to an interview with Tejano Nation radio affiliate Magic 106.5 FM in Lubbock, Texas.

“We were all in San Antonio and we made a meeting and he asked me, ‘Okay, what music do you like?’ and he asked me all that,” Ramos said in the interview. “From there he took off and that same night, like three of four in the morning he calls me and says ‘Check this out, this is a demo that I just made, I’ll send you another one’. I wake up my mom at three or four in morning and (say) ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah!’.”

The track is a “banger” according to Zavala in an email to Tejano Nation. “A Tejano cumbia that “is ready to set fire to the Quinceañera dancefloors across the country,” he added.

The track also features Tristan’s brother Dylan Ramos on bajo and is available now at all digital music platforms.

Daughter Digitizes Release for Rebirth of Rosina Records and Sixto Sanchez 52 Years After Tragedy

San Marcos, Texas — In the 1960s and 70s, Rosina Records was an independently-owned record label based in San Marcos. Its catalog included Chicano Soul and early recordings of Tejano music legends, as well as those of a rising star named Sixto Sanchez, who died in an accident in 1967. Now, 52 years after his death and decades after Rosina closed its doors, a daughter has resurrected its legacy.

In 2012, Rhea Kimbell ventured into her mother’s storage room in her childhood home and began to sort through and listen to some of the remaining inventory from her father’s record company. Kimbell’s father, Ruben Ruiz Sr., founded Rosina Records and Monterrey Records in 1962 in San Marcos. When the label was active, he recorded over 250 songs from over 100 artists early in their careers, many of whom went on to be superstars and legends like Isidro LopezAlfonso RamosGilbert RodriguezAugustin Ramirez, and Manuel “Cowboy” Donley.

Amidst the treasure trove of vinyl was an unreleased compilation LP that Ruiz had put together of Sixto Sanchez. The compilation includes a variety of horn-driven Orquesta-style Tejano and R&B.

Once billed as the next Ritchie Valens, Sanchez was the lead singer of The Broken Hearts, a very popular up and coming band from Seguin.

Late one night in 1967, while returning from a gig in Abilene, the band was involved in a fatal accident and Sanchez was killed.

After taking some of these items to a record show in Schertz, Kimbell and her husband David decided to introduce a new generation to the legacy of Rosina Records and the legend of Sixto Sanchez. Working with Compadresmusic and non-profit organization Rancho Alegre, both based in Austin, the compilation LP of Sanchez was digitized and is now available on CD and on all digital outlets.

Mia continues to branch out musically, touching the surface of urban / country, and incorporating it into her own unique style of cumbia. “Lost in the Middle of Nowhere” was vocally directed and recorded with David L. Garza at 180 Studios in Schertz, Texas. The song was co-produced by two-time Grammy Award-winning artist Sunny Sauceda, two-time Grammy Award-winning engineer Tony Gonzalez, and Mia’s manager and father, Chris Garcia.

Gonzalez has engineered artists such as Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, and Carlos Vives. In regards to working on this new project, he said, “Mia’s talent and exclusive voice is among the Latina unique few and famous. May I dare mention Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Gloria Estefan, Shakira, Shall I go on? Mia has a hell of a future! There’s no other voice that sounds like hers out there, that I know of, in any genre.”

Garcia added, “Sunny Sauceda has been a great friend since we started getting more involved in the industry. Always guiding us in the right direction, a wonderful family man who knows how to balance his family and music. This is what we like to do as well. Sunny heard the song and suggested we send it to Tony who he had known for years, and now we’re here! It’s been a dream come true to work with not only Grammy Award winners but people who are truly experts in their craft.”
