Michael Salgado received a second straight nomination in the return of the Best Tejano Album category, as nominations for the 19th annual Latin Grammy Awards were announced on Thursday by The Latin Recording Academy.
“To say it was a surprise, wouldn’t be the right word,” Salgado said about the nomination. “Whenever one releases material and has the consciousness of giving the best of yourself, what can I say, it’s a very huge satisfaction to be recognized among your colleagues.”

Salgado was the last artist to win the Latin Grammy award for Best Tejano Album in 2016 for Por Cielo Y Tierra. The category was omitted in 2017 due to low submissions. This gives a total of seven Latin Grammy nominations for the two-time Latin Grammy winner. He also won a Latin Grammy for En Vivo as Best Norteño Album in 2007.
However, this is very special for Salgado as it injects another personal and professional goal after having had a year of medical complications, which fortunately remains in the past as a life lesson.

“Otras Historias was an album that delivered many hours of preparation and production, and without a doubt is when you say, every sacrifice is worth it,” added Salgado.
Salgado, who recently celebrated the birth of a baby girl with his wife Blanca, has already released a follow-up album. La Vida En Un Hilo, released on May 29, reflects the special moments of the 47-year-old singer’s life over the past few years.
The 19th annual Latin Grammy Awards will air on Univision at 8:00 p.m. ET from Las Vegas, Nevada on November 15, 2018.

A beautiful acoustic cover of “Vuelvo” from Mazz sung by Texas singer Allison Vela got a lot of attention by many Tejano music fans this past weekend.
This version of the 1992 hit song from the multiple Grammy winning group features a different, but enjoyable stripped down sound and makes it her own from the original.
“An acoustic version of one of my favorite Tejano songs of all time,” Vela wrote on her YouTube channel. “It’s completely different from the original but I hope you enjoy.”
The 22-year-old singer from Robstown, Texas received praises for her cover, including Cezar Martinez, lead vocalist for David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales. He shared the video on Facebook with the caption, “Such an amazing voice! Awesome job by Allison Vela! Y’all show her some love! Oh and did I mention she’s also from Robstown, Texas (my hometown)?”
Vela’s YouTube channel features many other covers from different music genres, but this is the first Tejano cover posted on her channel.

Lia G, also known as Lia Branly, joins the three-time Grammy nominated band after recording as a solo artist and releasing her debut EP, Se Feliz, in 2016.
“I am so excited to be working with such a legendary band like Tortilla Factory,” Lia G told Tejano Nation. “I cant wait for everyone to hear the new music we have been working on. It’s a beautiful thing as an artist to be expressive with your own style and be taken in with such open arms by this legendary band.”
The singer from Burbank, California, grew up in a musically rich family, where her grandparents were singers and her mother a Tropicana dancer and singer. Music has always been a part of Lia’s life and her idol was late Latin music icon Selena.

The holiday season will be upon us before you know it and many record labels are set to release new holiday tunes even before Halloween, including a new Christmas song from Texas singer Matthew Morales. “Venga Jugar Conmigo” was released today to all digital music platforms and it will definitely be a part of many holiday playlists this year.
The song is the Spanish version of “Come Play Santa With Me”, composed by John Mathis and GRAMMY winner, Brad Davis. Davis produced the holiday track in his recording studio in Commerce, Texas.
When the duo were looking for a vocalist to sing the Spanish version, Davis said: “I know this guy from the university, I think he can sing it.” Morales, a vocal major at Texas A & M, was the one chosen.
The plan was to record a demo of the song and present it to popular artists in Tejano, Regional or Traditional genres. Davis was impressed with Morales’ performance in the studio this past summer, he entered the studio and sang the song twice. Two passes! He sounded fantastic.
Plans were made to release the song for Christmas with Morales as the artist. “Matthew made this song fun. And for his age, it sounds ‘classic’. I love your voice! He reminds me of another Texas artist, Freddy Fender. I think the song will be in many Spotify Playlists this Christmas.” said co-composer Mathis.
“Venga Jugar Conmigo” will premiere on Tejano Nation‘s Spotify Holiday Playlist on November 23. The official lyric video will launch on the Tejano Nation Facebook on November 1. It is available now at Spotify, Apple Music and iTunes.
