To Selena With Love, the best-selling book written by Chris Perez about his love story with his late wife Selena, will be adapted for television.

Endemol Shine North America and Major TV have optioned the television rights and are adapting To Selena With Love for both English and Spanish TV audiences with Blue Mariachi, Perez and Carlito Miranda’s production company. Endemol Shine, Major TV and Blue Mariachi are also developing additional culturally-driven scripted and non-scripted content together.

In To Selena With Love, which was first published in 2012 (English and Spanish), Perez recounts for the first time his compelling, forbidden and ultimately tragic love story with one of the most revered Latin music stars, Selena Quintanilla. The TV series will also include details, stories, perspective and insights which were not covered in the book from Perez’s perspective.

Major TV is led by Raymond Garcia, formerly publisher and founder of Celebra at Penguin Random House, where he published numerous best-sellers with top authors such as Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, and Perez, author of To Selena With Love.

“I spent several years keeping the memories of my late wife bottled up inside,” says Perez. “To Selena with Love allowed me to finally embrace my experience and understand the void it could fill in the hearts of so many others. I am now ready to take the important step of being fully transparent and bringing my everlasting relationship to life on the screen.”

“Selena is one of the most influential Latin artists of all time and her legacy continues to live on long after her tragic death,” says Endemol Shine North America CEO and Endemol Shine Americas Chairman Cris Abrego. “Chris Perez’s beautiful book To Selena With Love captured their amazing life together and will make for the perfect foundation for a TV series that our team is currently developing for both English and Spanish audiences worldwide.”

Added Major TV’s Garcia, “I could not be more honored and humbled to launch Major TV with Endemol Shine and the captivating love story of the legendary Selena Quintanilla and Chris Perez. Having published To Selena with Love, I witnessed legions of fans moved to tears with a rare glimpse into the heart and soul of their eternal icon. I am very proud of Chris for sharing his deeply personal relationship for the first time on television.”

Grammy Award-winner Selena Quintanilla is one of the most influential Latin artists of all time, having sold 60 million albums world wide. The Texas-born singer made her recording debut in the ’80s, going on to become an award-winning recording artist in the Latin music scene with albums like Amor Prohibido and Selena Live. In 1995, she was tragically murdered by the founder of her fan club. Her last album, Dreaming of You, was released posthumously in 1995 and became a huge hit. Selena’s life story was the subject of a 1997 film, Selena, which starred Jennifer Lopez in her career-propelling role as the Tejano superstar and James Edward Olmos as her father.

Rick Fuentes forms next generation of legendary band Brown Express [AUDIO]

A familiar face with a fresh sound is about to step out of the shadow of legend and carry forth his family legacy.

Rick Fuentes, Grammy Award-winning accordionist, arranger and producer, will be striking out on his own after over 20 years alongside Tejano icon Ruben Ramos as an integral member of the Mexican Revolution to form the next generation of his father’s group, the legendary Brown Express.

With this new project, Fuentes will craft a new signature sound, spreading his wings as bandleader, arranger and producer, vocalist and accordionist.

Backing him up on every track is the newest incarnation of Brown Express, a group of gifted musicians filled with energy and desire to make great music with one of Tejano music’s hardest working, most dedicated and talented professionals.

Born and raised in San Jose, California, with family roots in south Texas, Fuentes’ natural musical ability became obvious at an early age. His father, Ricardo “Richard” Fuentes, played button accordion and Farfisa organ for the iconic chicano band, Brown Express. As a child, Rick Fuentes would pore over each recording, picking out the keyboard parts and playing them on his own.

Tragedy struck in 1983 when Richard was on tour with Brown Express and the band was involved in a rollover accident. Richard and another band member were killed. As one would expect, young Rick was deeply affected by his father’s death, not only because he was his father, but also his musical mentor. After some initial doubts, Rick turned his grief into resolve and inspiration and embarked on a musical career his father would have been proud of.

Rick spent his early years with the legendary accordionist and Brown Express alumna Chavela Ortiz Hernandez with her new band, Grupo Express. It was a dream gig for him, especially since the sound was reminiscent of his dad’s era with Brown Express. Sadly, he only spent a few years with Chavela, before her accidental death.

After spending a couple of decades further developing his skills and talents alongside Ramos (who became like a second father to him) and a brief stint with Hugo Guerrero and Fandango USA, Rick feels it is time to step out of the shadows and not only carry on his father’s legacy, but create one of his own at the same time.

The future is bright and it’s time for Rick Fuentes & Brown Express to shine. Look for brand new material and official announcements in early 2017. Stay up to date with Rick Fuentes and The Brown Express at Facebook.com/RickFuentesMusicPage.

“The first time I heard this song I was driven to sing it,” Votion told Tejano Nation. “My mom was one of the reasons I choose this song. She heard Chavela sing it in her style and started crying, it has so much meaning to it.”

The song is a remake of the 1980’s hit from Chavela Y Su Grupo Express and features vocals from Grammy winner Rick Fuentes.

“As you all know, my mother, my rock, has left me.” said Votion. “She passed away November 21, 2016, and throughout 2016 was fighting stage four brain cancer, glioblastoma, one of the rarest cancers there is, as she was going through all of this, me and my father, Leon Votion, were there by her side 100%. She was and is a fighter.”

The song was written by Aurelio Algoalotes and produced by Grammy Award winning producer and musician Fuentes, who will also produce Votion’s upcoming album.

“Aurelio Algoalotes wrote such a beautiful song and I am honored to have recorded it with Rick Fuentes, my mentor and teacher though this journey,” said Votion.

The hot new cumbia was written and produced by Rene Trevizo of Kingdom Music.

“I am always thinking outside the box and going outside of what I am comfortable with, those rancheras type songs,” Reyes told Tejano Nation. “I know that I can sing them and I know I can do the Boleros and different types of ballads, but I wanted to venture out and give people what they want.”

“Mujeres Latinas” is the follow-up for the singer after the success of his debut single “Ventanas De Mi Alma.”

“I had a great response with ‘Ventanas De Mi Alma,’ so I wanted to do more of that since the music that I make is mainly dictated by what the people want and I want to do more,” Reyes said. “It is a learning experience for me to learn and grow.”

toselenawithloveAbraham Quintanilla, Jr., the father of late singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez, has filed a lawsuit against Chris Perez and Endemol Shine North America to stop production of a television series based on Perez’s best-selling book To Selena With Love.

According to Forbes.com, the suit was filed Friday in a Texas court to block production of the series, alleging that only Selena’s estate has the right to her name, image and “to author or authorize and commercially exploit a book, play, video, film, TV movie” about her life.

In November, Perez signed a deal with Endemol to adapt his book, published in 2012, into a television series. To Selena With Love gives Perez’s perspective of his romance with Selena, whom he was married to from 1992 until she was murdered in 1995, at the age of 23.

Forbes.com reports Perez is in violation of an Estate Properties Agreement he signed two months after her death in 1995, according to the suit. That agreement states that Quintanilla, Jr. is the exclusive rights holder of all “Entertainment Properties,” which includes contract, trademark and copyright rights, rights to income, rights of publicity, rights to name, voice, signature, and photographs, among other rights, “throughout the world in perpetuity without restriction.”

Perez accepted the terms of the Estate Properties Agreement and in doing so, “agreed to receive, among other things, twenty-five percent (25%) of the net profits derived from the exploitation of the Entertainment Properties,” according to the suit.

The singer is featured walking along train tracks and performing on stage in the visual, directed by Jeff Bergman, showcasing Delarosa’s meteoric rise in her music career.

“Jeff had the idea of having a casual small town girl singing on the train tracks that later in the video turns into the rock star with all the lights,” Delarosa told Tejano Nation. “It some how is aligned with my life and how my music is starting to take flight after so many years working hard towards my goals.

The video was shot in the Texas locations of Brownsville and Pharr, Delarosa’s hometown.

“I was raised in Pharr, so it was so important to me to show a little bit of where I come from in the video,” Delarosa said. “It is one of my favorite productions so far. The second scene with the band really came to life and I am proud to say this will be my touring band in the near future.”

The singer-songwriter is also a fashion designer with her own fashion line, RagzByMagz, and created her fashion for the video.
