bsantana-paquevolverTejano newcomer B. Santa Ana released her debut single, “Pa’ Que Volver.”  The track, produced by Grammy Award winner Hugo Guerrero, is a cover of the classic hit from Laura Canales, one of Santa Ana’s musical influences.

“Laura Canales is an icon/hero of mine and inspiring me to be the singer I am,” said Santa Ana. “I just hope and pray that she would approve and the public gets some enjoyment as I bring this Tejano memory back one more time with this arrangement from Hugo Guerrero.”

Santa Ana began her singing in her father’s garage. She remembers as a little girl singing and dancing in front of family and friends.

“I loved the attention,” she said.

After she began singing on a regular basis she realized how much joy it brought to her heart. Soon after that, Santa Ana started writing her own songs.

“I have Hip Hop, Tejano, and Blues songs,” Santa Ana said with excitement. “Eleven songs all together.”

Santa Ana is a former lead female vocalist for several bands like Sentimiento, Vida Band de Killeen, Salaman, Los Metro Dudes, and Grupo Cielo.  She has also sung alongside Flaco Jimenez, Elsa Garcia, Ram Herrera, Little Joe, Randy Garibay, Ricardo Castillion, and one of her all-time favorites Anna Roman. In 2014, she was a Tejano Idol contestant and was voted Audience Favorite.

“Pa’ Que Volver” is available now at all digital retailers. B. Santa Ana is signed with Entertainment Y Mas and is available for bookings and more. Get more info at EntYMas.com.

Rising Tejano singer Isabel Marie Sanchez honored Selena Quintanilla-Perez with an amazing performance of “I Will Always Love You” at #MACSelena event on Friday in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The biggest launch in MAC Cosmetics history for the collection honoring the late Queen of Tejano music, featured performances from Isabel Marie and Latin singer Prince Royce. But, it was 13-year-old singer Isabel Marie’s performance of the classic hit that has everyone buzzing.

Thousands of fans attended the worldwide launch of the makeup collection, including blush, lipsticks, eye shadows, eyeliner and mascara. The collection was prompted in part by an online petition started more than a year ago that 40,000 fans signed, asking MAC Cosmetics to commemorate the slain Tejano star.

Selena was 23-years-old when she was fatally shot by her fan club’s president, Yolanda Saldívar, in 1995, in Corpus Christi. Saldívar was convicted in the killing and sentenced to life in prison.

Tejano music legend Alfonso Ramos passed away on Tuesday in Austin, Texas after a long illness.

The musician’s older brother “El Gato Negro” Ruben Ramos confirmed the news via his official Facebook page on Tuesday.

“The Ramos family will miss my brother Alfonso Ramos, Leon de la Sierra. He is now resting. Until we meet again my brother Alfonso. I love you. Your brother Ruben Ramos.”

A gifted vocalist and saxophonist, the handsome, silver-haired Alfonso was known as “El Mero Leon de la Sierra” and, along with his brothers Ruben, Elijio, Joe and Roy, hit the Austin music scene as the Alfonso Ramos Orchestra in the late 1950s. The big band was one of the great “orquestas” to come out of Austin’s old east side, featuring a big brass section and playing cha chas, cumbias, boleros and rancheras.

Alfonso’s contributions to Tejano music have been recognized by various organizations, including the Austin Latino Music Association, and he was inducted into the Tejano Music Awards Hall of Fame in 1998 and into the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame in 2002.

In 1985, Alfonso and Ruben got together to record an album and were awarded Best Vocal Duo at the 1987 Tejano Music Awards for “TX Revolution.”

Tejano Nation sends our heartfelt condolences to the Ramos family and will post details on services as soon as they become available.

“This video is definitely a song that celebrates our music and culture in a fresh perspective,” Veronique told Tejano Nation. “Since I was 7 years old my happiest memories in which I felt connected to my culture took place at La Pulga (flea market). It’s truly the place where border culture and unity collide vibrantly and showcases our constant interaction with the border in the U.S.”

This visual was produced by Harlingen, Texas-based El Valle Film Productions, who have worked on films for CineMexico, ESPN and countless other national productions.

“Due to our immediate response from the fans, we will be producing a special video breaking down the Tejano Line Dance that takes place in our video,” said Veronique.

The line dance was put together by classically trained choreographer Caty Wantland.

“Adding a very clear cut choreography scene with so many people was a daunting task given that we weren’t sure what our fans would think, but seeing so much love for our work and the desire for it to be learned is definitely something we are looking forward to shooting very soon,” Veronique added.

“La Pulga” is the latest single released from Veronique’s sophomore album Mi Año Dorado.

Patty Rodriguez: How she got MAC to create the Selena collection [VIDEO]

By Alex Gervasi

Alex Gervasi talks with Patty Rodriguez. (YouTube)

Alex Gervasi talks with Patty Rodriguez. (YouTube)

Meet Patty Rodriguez, the woman behind the petition that helped launch the MAC Selena collection.

Patty Rodriguez is more than just a producer for On Air With Ryan Seacrest, which is impressive alone. She is a mother of two, has her own jewelry line, and is an author.

Oh, and she is also the woman who went to MAC Cosmetics and asked them to create a line for Selena Quintanilla.

There has been so much hype over the new Selena by MAC line, I decided to sit down with her and ask how she got to this point. I wanted to know what made this woman from East Los Angeles create that MAC petition and why Selena had such a impact on her life.

Patty already inspired me, but after talking to her… I felt like I could take on the world.

On getting her start in radio:

I was 16… we lived in Lynwood and the studios were here in Burbank. I had to lie to my mom and tell her that I had a very early class so she could lend me her car so I could drive here for my internship. She would take the bus 5 days a week to work so I could drive….to me, that’s a very important part of who I am…. My mom, being a Mexican immigrant, not really understanding what I was doing… she trusted me to make the right decisions at that time.

On never getting comfortable and wearing so many different ‘hats’:

When I had my first child, that’s when I had this revelation where I wanted to give more to him because he is our future… and if he doesn’t see his mother going after her dreams then what kind of role model am I for him?

The impact of Selena on the Latino community:

It’s not just any relationship you have with a celebrity, she is family. She means so much to us even 21 years after her death…. men gravitated towards her and women saw themselves in her. She had the same hair texture. She spoke Spanglish. Sometimes she couldn’t pronounce a Spanish word properly like so many of us in this country where we come from 1st generation or immigrant parents. She understood who were. She was one of the first celebrity icons that us Latino Americans saw as someone just like us… We’re always listening to her music. She’s there at our parties, at our baptisms, at our quinceaneras… she’s there when our hearts are being broken, she’s there when we’re celebrating life… she’s always there.

And now there are over 50 million Latinos in this country and yet we still feel and we are still treated like minorities. With MAC creating this for us, it kind of sends a message out like we’re no longer in the shadows. This is our country and we’re just as American as anyone else.

On e-mailing the CEO of MAC Cosmetics about her Selena Collection idea:

I basically said, “I’m a consumer. I’m a Latina. We are, as women, more likely to buy beauty products than any other group in the country. I think it’s time for your brand to thank us for that.” (laughs)

…I created the petition. I knew the power of our community and the love we had for her. She is the American woman. She is the American woman right now. She deserves to be celebrated.

It’s an amazing thing to have a little part in the creation of this.

(She then reached out to Suzette Quintenilla, Selena’s sister, and put her in contact with MAC.)

What she feels when she sees her idea come to life and knowing that a new generation of MAC consumers will be introduced to Selena:

When I see it, I think of my community. I just… I can’t think of anyone that deserves it more than we do. I know there’s a lot of problems in the world and makeup should be the last of our worries, but I think it’s as simple as, you know, where we’re heading as a community and the power that we have. I just want this to serve as a vision for our community to dream bigger…. to reach for the skies… to reach for the stars… to believe in themselves. I want our children to believe in themselves. I want them to continue to do these things that… (starts to tear up) …I just want our community to be inspired, encouraged, and to continue growing with love, dignity, and respect.

Check out the entire interview with Patty below.

Elia Esparza, the singer that performed “Como La Flor” from Selena in her blind audition on NBC’s The Voice, was ousted in the battle round on Tuesday night’s episode of the singing competition show.

The singer from El Paso, Texas battled against another Texan, San Antonio singer Ponciano Seoane, with a duet of “Tenerife Sea,” the 2014 hit from Ed Sheeran.

“This felt really natural, so I think you both succeeded,” coach Adam Levine said of the performance. “But I’ve got to say the winner of this battle is Ponciano.”

Esparza had great praise for her singing partner and her experience on the show.

“Extremely grateful for everything, it’s been truly life changing,” Esparza posted on Twitter after the results. “You were an awesome battle partner @ponciano_seoane!! Kill it in the knockouts!! It was incredible being coached by @adamlevine. Head on over and download our song on iTunes!”

This probably won’t be the last you hear from Esparza.

“Thank you for all the support so far and I promise, this isn’t the end, only the beginning,” added Esparza.

nfaithband-featured_500x500Christian Tejano Band N Faith has signed with legendary record label Hacienda Records, the band announced.

N Faith was formed in 2003 by Juan “JJ” Lopez, after losing everything he owned. His business, his house, Lopez found relief in God, putting his complete trust and faith in Jesus. This pushed him to pursue and lift up this “ministry” known today as the band, N Faith.

The sole purpose for this San Angelo, Texas-based band is to spread Love, and give Hope to those that need it the most. With an encouraging message, captivating rhythm, and a powerful, yet energetic set list, this band reaches people that are homeless, people that are suicidal and alone, and those that are in need of the Lord, every night they perform.

This band, humbly, has grown into a movement over the years.

In 2007, Lopez was ordained as a Pastor and founded N Faith Ministries Church. When the band is not on the road and lifting up people spiritually, they are leading people into worship on Sundays! The congregation is growing more and more every year, the “N Faith” name has now taken on a new meaning, with the 2016 motto, “Truth, Love, Friendship.” N Faith is on a mission to take city of San Angelo by storm, by spreading the truth of the Gospel, God’s love for his people, and by offering friendship to those that feel lonely.

N Faith announced their new record deal with Corpus Christi, Texas-based Hacienda Records, with a brand new album set to be released in March 2017.  The album, Firme En La Tormenta, will include 10 original songs birthed from the heart of the band.
