The final album recorded by late singer Ernestine Romero will not receive any nominations for this year’s Hispano Music Awards in New Mexico.

Romero’s final album “Mi Tesoro,” released last March, was not submitted in time to be considered for a nomination at the annual event held by the New Mexico Hispano Music Association.

“We have let our beautiful angel down,” said a post on Romero’s Facebook page. “Ernestine handled everything regarding her musical career and because of this, her very last CD, ‘Mi Tesoro’, commemorating her 20 years in the music industry will not be included for the 29th Annual Hispano Music Awards show.”

“Despite all of our efforts to have her included in this year’s awards show, Ernestine will not have her last opportunity to showcase the lifelong work and dedication to her music in her home state of New Mexico,” the post added.

The multi-award-winning singer was tragically killed by her estranged husband in a murder-suicide last July, a day after her 32nd birthday.

“We want to personally apologize to all of Ernestine’s fans and thank you for all of the continued love, support, and tributes for Ernestine, her musical career and keeping her legacy alive,” said the post.

The 27th annual Hispano Music Awards are scheduled for Saturday, January 18, 2020, at the Ohkay Hotel and Casino Conference Center in Espanola, New Mexico. Nominations will be announced Jan. 4.

Romero celebrated her 20th year in the music industry with the release of “Mi Tesoro”, the 10th album from the singer. She was a multiple New Mexico Hispano Music Awards winner and was a nominee for Female Vocalist of the Year at the Tejano Music Awards in 2016.

Ernestine Romero will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award and a tribute performance has been planned for the late New Mexico singer at the 29th annual Hispano Music Awards on Jan. 18.

The New Mexico Hispano Music Association, organizers of the annual awards show, is committed to promoting New Mexico Hispano music and proudly supports its members.

Romero, who was tragically murdered in July 2019, unfortunately, did not receive any nominations at this year’s awards show for her last album “Mi Tesoro” released last March because it was not submitted in time for consideration.

The singer’s family offered their explanation for the lack of nominations.

The NMHMA also addressed the lack of nominations for Romero’s last album after fans expressed their concerns via social media. “We recognize public sentiment regarding this concern and respect the family’s explanation to her fans regarding ‘Mi Tesoro’ not being considered for a nomination for this year’s award show,” the association said.

The NMHMA shared details for plans to honor Romero this year at the Hispano Music Awards.

“Historically, the NMHMA has always paid tribute to members that have passed,” said the organization via social media. “This year is no exception; immediately upon her passing, the board began planning its tribute to Ernestine that will be featured at this year’s award show. The tribute will feature a memoriam video, a musical performance featuring her music and the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously.”

“Ernestine’s contributions to the New Mexico music industry will forever be remembered,” the organization added. “We proudly have supported Ernestine since her first performance at the Children and Youth Competition throughout her entire musical career.”

The 27th annual Hispano Music Awards are scheduled for Saturday, January 18, 2020, at the Ohkay Hotel and Casino Conference Center in Espanola, New Mexico.

Romero celebrated her 20th year in the music industry with the release of “Mi Tesoro”, the 10th album from the singer. She was a multiple New Mexico Hispano Music Awards winner and was a nominee for Female Vocalist of the Year at the Tejano Music Awards in 2016.

Tejano icon and star Veronique Medrano has released the new single off her upcoming untitled album, “Hola y Adiós”. This cumbia stretches the boundaries of Tejano in exciting new ways as she infuses Latin-Pop and Rock creating Tejano Alternativo.

The song is definitely an expression of liberation. This song is a departure from other releases as it is the first time her writing is taking the lead for an album.

“I always felt that it was only right to have other writer’s songs take the lead,” Veronique told Tejano Nation. “Having my writing on display and my creative work. I’m indie again and all the lessons I’ve learned over the past six years in the industry culminate into this beautiful creation that melds all my musical taste in unknown ways.”

The creative team behind this song and upcoming album is young and join Veronique in musical strength. Producers Mike Torres III and John Ontiveros of LA 45 are behind this song and the whole upcoming new album.

When asked what they could divulge on the creative direction of the record the duo said, “Veronique does not draw within the lines. She represents Chicanas in the modern era. We wanted to push her creatively and doing so meant giving her the space to write and create without limiting what it should sound like.”

“Hola y Adiós” is a perfect record for the new year, as this cumbia says “Adiós” to the old and “Hola” to all the new possibilities that the industry has to offer.

Rick Balderrama re-releases 'La Patria' album via custom USB device

Rick Balderrama is taking his current fifth album, “La Patria,” an album dedicated to his late father, Tejano legend Henry Balderrama, to the next level with the re-release of the album via digital media on a custom USB drive.

Balderrama teamed with John Negrete at Matson Multimedia to give fans a new way of listening to music.

“The whole concept is pretty cool,” Balderrama told Tejano Nation.

He becomes the first Tejano and Latin artist to release his album this way and believes it is the future of music distribution.

“The whole concept, of course, my brother has a 2019 Honda Accord and it does not have a CD player,” said Balderrama. “All these new vehicles going forward, they don’t have CD players but they have USB.”

This new approach of custom USB albums began in recent years with independent artists wanting to give fans bonus material, including music videos, band member profiles, song lyrics and so much more. It allows artists to give fans more information than CD or vinyl.

Standard CDs store just under 740 MB of music, while USB drives generally start with a minimum of 1 GB storage with up to 32 GB capacity. It’s a customized and effective way to release music, create a buzz and provide audiophiles and music collectors with special edition mementos.

Balderrama plans to re-release all four of his previous albums and his upcoming sixth album via USB. The package will still include a CD for fans. The re-release of “La Patria” with USB drive is available at RickBalderrama.com.
