As the nation awaits the results of the 2020 U.S. Presidential election, Tejano Nation can confirm that Cezar Martinez, lead vocalist for legendary band David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales, won his election bid for Robstown ISD Board of Trustee, Place 2, on Tuesday night with 2,206 votes or 53 percent of the vote.
Martinez shared the results via his Facebook page, where he also posted a video of himself singing with a mariachi group wearing a U.S. flag suit while awaiting the results on election night.
This isn’t the first public office for the 28-year-old singer. In 2017, Martinez was elected to the Robstown City Council, the city where he was born and raised. He was re-elected in 2019.
In the announcement for his run for Robstown ISD Board of Trustees in July, Martinez said, “In the trying times that we find ourselves in today during this pandemic, we must make our children, our teachers, faculty/staff, and their families top priority. We must keep them safe and healthy while still keeping our focus on the students’ education.”
Martinez previously worked at the school district with after school programs and Special Education.
“Aside from music, education has always been a passion of mine,” he continued. “Even after I left the school district to pursue a music career, I stayed active and involved as a volunteer to conduct school pep-rallies and other events for Seale Jr. High and also served as a Robstown ISD Education Foundation Board Member.”
Martinez is currently working a new album with David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales, who has been the lead vocalist since November 2014. This album will be the follow-up to the hugely successful Asi Es La Vida released in 2018.
