veronique-wastedays-featured-750x375

Rising Tejano star Veronique Medrano has released a remake of the Freddy Fender classic hit, “Wasted Days And Wasted Nights”.

Veronique hadn’t planned to release her version of the Fender classic hit, but her fans had been asking for it.

“When you do covers, everybody has an opinion as to how it should sound and what you should put in there,” Veronique told Tejano Nation. “You’re not going to please everybody, but the thing is that so many of my fans wanted it and since there was such a clamoring for it, more than anything, that really pushed us to go ahead and do it, because otherwise we would have just left it as something that was just part of the show.”

The blues ballad from Fender, who passed away in 2006, was originally written and released in 1959 during the early stages of his career, but an arrest and conviction on charges of possession of marijuana in 1960 shelved Fender’s career during his incarceration.

“Wasted Days And Wasted Nights” was re-recorded in 1975 after  Fender’s career was rejuvenated with his hit “Before The Next Teardrop Falls”.  This time, “Wasted Days” became a huge country and pop hit, selling over 1 million copies.

Other artists have covered the classic tune, including Leann Rimes and the late Jenni Rivera.

“Wasted Days” by Veronique Medrano is available now at all digital platforms, including the Tejano Nation Amazon MP3 store.

Ram Herrera performs at KXTN Tejano Thursdays on June 15, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. | KXTN

Ram Herrera gave an exclusive phone interview with Tejano Nation radio affiliate KXTN on July 14 to give fans an update on his condition.

The 57-year-old Tejano legend was admitted to a San Antonio hospital late Friday night due to a collapsed lung and pneumonia.

“I’m doing a lot better, but it’s going to be a long road to recovery,” he told Homie Marco, KXTN morning host. “I have a real bad infection in my blood. They found an antibiotic to deal with it.”

Herrera says he had cuts on his knee that turned into a staph infection after wading into the water during a fishing trip.

“My knee swelled up like a basketball. I couldn’t walk,” he said. His fever was at 106 degrees when he was admitted to Mission Trail Baptist Hospital in San Antonio.

“I was delirious. I was in pain. And then my lifestyle, the way I live, too … It’s a miracle that I’m alive.”

He released an emotional video late Sunday from his hospital bed. Herrera again teared up as he talked on the air.

“I didn’t think I reached out to so many people with my music. It’s a very humbling experience. I was overwhelmed by all this,” he said. “And I’m still overwhelmed by the response I got.”

Herrera began his career in 1980 as the lead vocalist for David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales and went on to solo success. He has released more than 30 albums in English and Spanish.

He won Tejano Music Awards for Male Entertainer of the Year in 1988 and 1989 and Male Vocalist of the Year from 1987-89.

Herrera’s most recent album release was the Latin Grammy nominated Mucho Mas Que Amor, released in 2015.

He says he’s been working on a new album and, once he’s done with treatment, is ready to get back onstage.
