Anjelique released the official video for “No Pienses En Volver,” the duet with Esteven Cerda, on Friday (Aug. 19).

RELATED: Anjelique debuts new music, talks working with Shelly Lares on Tejano Nation Radio [PODCAST]

The visual for the singer’s latest hit was filmed by Ryan Bazan at La Rancho Mission in San Antonio.

“What an amazing experience to work with Ryan Bazan once again,” Anjelique told Tejano Nation. “He captured exactly what we wanted the video to portray. Words can’t express how proud I am of Sweet City Band, Joey the media man, and all the fans and people who continue to support Anjelique Music including our dedicated fans and new fans we have been making everyday! This one (video) is for them, the fans who have our back through the ups and downs of being in the music industry.”

The upbeat cumbia with a catchy melody, written by Cerda, mixes together the Tejano flavor of Anjelique and The Sweet City Band with Cerda’s accordion riffs, giving it a hint of a Regional feel.

“This was a song that was fun to record,” said Anjelique. “When we laid the first tracks down in the studio it began to evolve all on its own. We hope to portray the musical diversity that Anjelique and Sweet City Band has with this song. Esteven and I have sang next to each other for years and we have fun backing each other up vocally. Also, even though this song is about ‘arguing in a relationship,’ I hope it brings the feeling of its okay to turn the page to the next chapter when it comes to being in an unhappy relationship. I’ve read before, ‘sometimes it hurts more to hold on than let go’.”

The track was recorded at Slack Monster Studios with Severo “Sevy” Contreras of Texas Latino behind the mixing board, with production and guidance from Little Miss Dynamite herself, Shelly Lares and smooth melodious strings from Jimmy Garcia.

“No Pienses en Volver” is available on CDBABY,  iTunes, Google Play, Amazon MP3, Spotify, and many other digital distributors as well as her official website,  AnjeliqueMusic.com.

Missy signs with Solcar Records, releases “La Hija De Nadie” single. (Missy | Facebook)

Discos Solcar, the upstart record label created by Carlos Y Los Cachorros frontman Carlos Rodriguez, announced the signing of singer Missy and released her new single “La Hija De Nadie.”

“The song is pure conjunto,” said Discos Solcar CEO Carlos Rodriguez. “This is just an ice breaker and we look forward to completing her album and sending it out.”

“La Hija De Nadie” is a remake of the 1972 hit from Yolanda Del Rio, but in pure Missy style.

Missy, formerly from Missy Y Xpression, took a break from the Tejano music scene to start a family.

“Three years after my daughter Melody was born I was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma in 2009,” Missy told Tejano Nation. “After my chemotherapy and radiation treatments, five years later, I was considered a cancer survivor!  At that time I knew it was time to get back to the music and make some noise.”

The singer from Pearsall, Texas says her music is influenced by powerful female vocalists.

“I grew up listening to women with powerful vocals like Yolanda Del Rio, Rocio Durcal, Laura Canales,” she said. “That’s where I was inspired to record ‘La Hija De Nadie’, in an upbeat ranchera.”

Since coming back to music in April of 2015, Missy has been playing venues across South Texas, San Antonio, with plans to perform in Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth area in the upcoming months with the backing of Solcar Record.

“We’ve got 75% of the album done, get ready all the rancheras and cumbias are all upbeat,” said Missy. “Hopefully everyone will enjoy my music and request it. So keep looking out for Missy to play in a town or city near you!”

For booking information, contact Martin Estrada at 210.367.8379 or Dora Herrera Gray at 210.326.9578.

Legendary Tejano music executive Bob Grever has passed away. Latin Groove Music reported the passing of Grever, who “leaves a wonderful legacy of great songs and iconic artists.”

Grever was instrumental in the careers of Tejano music legends Mazz, La Mafia, Emilio Navaira, and Selena, just to name a few. His record label Cara Records, known to many as the Tejano Motown, released some of the biggest hits in Tejano music.

Latin Groove Music said Grever was a “powerful executive, behind the scenes, bringing greatness to Tejano music.”

Many Tejano superstars reacted to news of Grevers passing via social media.

“So sad to have lost such an icon in our industry! Bob signed me to my first major label deal with Capital Records and helped produce my first two Tejano hits ‘Tu y Nadie Mas’ & ‘Primer Beso’,” Tejano superstar Stefani Montiel commented on Facebook. “Such a wonderful and talented man who truly loved and believed in and loved Tejano music! He will be missed!”

“Word of Bob’s passing touched me with deep sadness yet great respect of a visionary/trailblazer/mentor,” said Tejano music legend Ruben Cubillos. “Bob and I were synonymous with our passion for the Tejano music biz. The most memorable piece of work together was Breakin’ The Rules – The Latin Breed 1989. Bob’s contributions will not be in vain. His touch of gold is bountiful, so its up us – those within his shadow to share the great stories of his legacy. Until we meet again… for me Bob Grever VIVE!”

“There are pioneers in Tejano music and then there is Bob Grever who took those pioneers to school. Much respect…
Rest in Peace,” said Bill Angelini.

“Bob was more than a Producer/Record Label Executive to the Navaira family,” said Yvette Navaira. “He was a part of our family. When Emilio passed he called me and paid his respects. He could barely talk and we both cried together. He was a man with a big heart. Thank you Bob for putting Tejano music on the map.”

“When I was first introduced to Tejano Music, every CD I loved had a name on the credits that would pop up over and over,” Gabriel Zavala posted on Facebook in 2013. “I was able to meet him briefly and soaked in every word he said as if he was a prophet. His Name is Bob Grever.”

“Bob, did so much for his artists for music, for publishing,” said Tony Rivera. “Yet he was another one of those real pioneers that so many fans ever heard of. He never got the big acknowledgment from his local peers, the award shows etc. But every single artist that he worked with knows what he did for their careers.”

Bob Grever shared his story with News4SA, just weeks before his death. The full interview is below.

Tejano Nation sends our heartfelt condolences to the Grever family and the many Tejano stars and fans that felt an impact from a true Tejano pioneer.

A letter written by Benita Lopez, mother of former Mazz co-founder Joe Lopez, asking for his exoneration has surfaced online.

According to TexasMusicRadio.net, the letter was allegedly sent to the Brownsville Herald to be published and aid the family in getting a new trial for Joe Lopez, but the letter was allegedly lost and never published.

“The letter that was paid for by Benita Lopez and sent to the Brownsville Herald that was never published it took Sandra Trevino to investigate what happened to the alleged letter, and was told it was misplaced and did not have any derogatory or offensive statements,” wrote Kandi Garcia of Texas Music Radio. “But we all wondered why it did not go to print?”

According to the website, Brownsville Herald publisher Frank Escobedo reviewed the letter and found that it should have been published right after Benita Lopez’s 92nd birthday on July 12, 2016. The website said the newspaper would publish the letter, but did not give an exact date.

The letter mentions the “inhumane” conditions for Joe Lopez in prison and the former singer being “abused and neglected as it relates to his medical conditions.” You can view the full letter here.

Lopez was convicted in 2006 on multiple sex offense charges involving a minor. He was sentenced to 32 years in prison, but because he will serve the sentences concurrently, they amount to 20 years in prison. Joe Lopez’s full prison term would end on October 27, 2026. He is eligible for parole on October 26, 2016.

The Lopez family has always maintained the former singer’s innocence on the charges.

Tejano and freestyle singer Angel Gonzalez will perform at the 2016 Austin Pride Parade in Austin, Texas on Saturday, August 27, 2016.

The two-time Tejano Music Awards nominee confirmed his performance with his band Vimana at the LGBT community event via Facebook on Thursday (August 25).

“For me this is truly an honor to be apart of this amazing event, just to have been asked was truly breathtaking for many reasons,” Gonzalez posted. “The LGBT community could have selected any artists for this event to represent the community and Tejano & Freestyle industry, so this is truly an honor for me.”

The Austin native and a member of the LGBT community is proud to support and be a voice for equality.

“To have hometown support means a lot for any artist,” Gonzalez said. “Being a part of the music world, I’m not here for just performances and awards ceremonies. As many sometimes stereotype however, I stand alongside of the communities in different cities and states all around hoping to show I will support the people best way I can as an artist but also as one of the people of the community and military spouse. This is why it means so much to be a voice for others and show equality best way I can.”

Gonzalez will perform Tejano music on one of the pride floats. The parade and festival will take place at Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach in Town Lake Metropolitan Park at 11 a.m. on 2101 Jesse E. Segovia Street in Austin. Tickets can purchased here.

The Pride Parade is a part of Austin’s Pride Week, August 20-27. Proceeds from Austin Pride are donated back into the community via the Austin Pride Cares program. Since 2011, the Austin Gay and Lesbian Pride Foundation (AGLPF) has donated over $100,000.

Supporters to free Joe Lopez held rallies at county courthouses in three cities simultaneously on Thursday. The rallies were held in Brownsville, San Antonio and Monterrey, Mexico.

The former Mazz singer was convicted in 2006 on multiple sex offense charges involving a minor. He was sentenced to 32 years in prison, but because he will serve the sentences concurrently, they amount to 20 years in prison. Lopez’s full prison term would end on October 27, 2026. He is eligible for parole on October 26, 2016.

For years Free Joe Lopez supporters claim the trial was rigged, by having biased jurors and evidence that was either tainted or withheld, according to Rio Grande Valley television station News Center 23.

Supporters believe the system was rigged by former District Attorney Armando Villalobos, who is currently in prison, convicted of accepting bribes and money for favors in the courtroom.

“You have an innocent man sitting in prison due to a campaign event that Joe was supposed to play at,” supporter Sandra Trevino told News Center 23. “He [Villalobos] did not cancel in time so you don’t get your money back and because of that Joe Lopez is sitting in prison.”

Trevino’s husband, Michael, was wrongfully convicted for sexual assault and was successfully exonerated after 8 years in prison by attorney William Haebern, who now represents Lopez.

“So let’s do the right thing and let’s bring Joe home and let’s exonerate him, it’s time,” said Trevino.
