After “rickrolling” fans during a teaser for the new track last month, Grupo Vida has returned with their first single in three years with the release of “Las Margaritas” on Monday (July 10).
Grupo Vida lead vocalist and guitarist Jason Martinez posted on Facebook about the latest single from the band, “The new Vida single has dropped! Three years in the making. We’re bringing the classic, alegre, danceable element back to Tejano radio. Tejano has come full circle.”
Grupo Vida was formed in 1992 by John Villanueva and drummer Tim Villanueva, who were joined later by bass player Manny González, accordionist Sunny Sauceda, singer Art Tigerina, guitarist Martínez, and keyboardist/guitarist Javier Sauceda. The band released a self-titled album after getting a deal with Tejas Records, getting the hit song “Sin Buenas Condiciones” and a Grammy nomination for Together Forever. After releasing their second album, Sin Control, Grupo Vida was awarded by TEMA as Band of the Year 1998. The following year, the well-known Tejano music organization TTMA nominated Grupo Vida under the same category and also for Album of the Year.
“Las Margaritas” is available now from the three-time Grammy nominated band at all digital platforms.
