AUSTIN, TEXAS – Texas Representative Diana Arévalo and Representative Barbara Gervin-Hawkins, both of San Antonio, honored Sebastian De La Cruz on the floor of the Texas House of Representatives for his contribution to the arts and the community on Friday (May 26).
At a very young age, De La Cruz has proven himself to be among the best young mariachi vocalists in the United States. He has performed for the internationally acclaimed Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, shared the stage with Gloria Estefan, competed in the hit television show “America’s Got Talent,” and performed for the Democratic National Convention. In addition he has starred in Eva Longoria’s hit television show “Telenovela.”
During the NBA Finals in 2013, De La Cruz performed the National Anthem and gained worldwide exposure for wearing a Mariachi traje. Although he received public criticism, President Obama, former San Antonio Mayor and HUD Secretary Julian Castro, Actress Eva Longoria, Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich and others stood by his side.
“San Antonio is proud of our Mariachi, El Charro De Oro, Sebastian De La Cruz. He is a direct representation of the culture we embody,” stated Representative Arévalo.
De La Cruz recently released his latest single “Pobre Cancionero” featuring Paula Deanda from his new album Nuestro Amor, released in February.
