Savannah Votion has released her latest single “Cuando Se Fue” on the same day her mother, Irasema Votion, passed away from a rare form of brain cancer.
“The first time I heard this song I was driven to sing it,” Votion told Tejano Nation. “My mom was one of the reasons I choose this song. She heard Chavela sing it in her style and started crying, it has so much meaning to it.”
The song is a remake of the 1980’s hit from Chavela Y Su Grupo Express and features vocals from Grammy winner Rick Fuentes.
“As you all know, my mother, my rock, has left me.” said Votion. “She passed away November 21, 2016, and throughout 2016 was fighting stage four brain cancer, glioblastoma, one of the rarest cancers there is, as she was going through all of this, me and my father, Leon Votion, were there by her side 100%. She was and is a fighter.”
The song was written by Aurelio Algoalotes and produced by Grammy Award winning producer and musician Fuentes, who will also produce Votion’s upcoming album.
“Aurelio Algoalotes wrote such a beautiful song and I am honored to have recorded it with Rick Fuentes, my mentor and teacher though this journey,” said Votion.
“To all of you that have lost a loved one,” Votion added. “Maybe it will mean as much to you as much as it means to me.”
Votion plans make the single available for free download for all her fans.
