Humberto “Beto” Ramon has become a legend in the world of Tejano music, and his talent as a songwriter has earned him numerous accolades throughout his illustrious career. Born on February 7, 1959, in Laredo, Texas, to Oswaldo and Teresa Ramon, Beto’s early passion for music propelled him to achieve extraordinary success in the industry.

From his humble beginnings in Laredo, Beto’s musical journey started with playing in various bands, showcasing his original compositions. It was during this time that Beto formed Grupo Carino and recorded his first original song, “Valiente.” This captivating composition won first place in a local competition and caught the attention of music industry professionals.

Thanks to a publishing deal with Golden Sands Publishing, owned by late music executive Bob Grever in San Antonio, Beto gained access to some of the biggest names in Tejano music. Collaborations with renowned artists such as Joe Posada, Latin Breed, and Grupo Mazz propelled Beto to new heights. Mega hits like “Laura” and “Que Me Lleven Canciones” with the Tejano supergroup further solidified his reputation as a gifted songwriter.

Beto’s incredible talent and hard work were duly recognized in the form of numerous prestigious awards. His first Tejano Music Award for Songwriter of the Year came with his composition “Que Me Lleven Canciones.” This was just the beginning, as Beto went on to win a total of eleven Tejano Music Awards during the 1990s. His contributions to the albums of Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz and Roger Velásquez and The Latin Legends earned him six Latin Grammy certificates.

His talent has been recognized by the Texas Talent Musicians Association, Pura Vida Awards, Midwest Tejano Music Awards, Festival Oti (Organizacion de Television Iberoamericana), the American Society for Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), Univision Latin Music Awards, MTA awards, Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame, and many others. This recognition is a testament to the significant impact Beto has made on the Tejano music scene throughout his over thirty-year career.

With over 450 registered recordings with ASCAP, Beto’s compositions have been brought to life by a vast array of talented artists. From established names like Ram Herrera, Bobby Pulido, and Ruben Ramos, to rising stars such as Isabel Marie and Laura Denisse, Beto’s songs have resonated with audiences across generations.

One notable aspect of Beto’s songwriting prowess is his ability to capture the perspective of women in Tejano music, providing them with new material to flourish. His compositions have empowered powerhouse singers like Elida Reyna, Laura Canales, and Stefani Montiel. Beto’s influence extends to a new generation of female artists, including Marisela Hernandez, Lydia Castillo, and Jenny B.

Aside from his contributions to the music world, Beto has also made significant humanitarian efforts through his music. Collaborative recordings such as “Canta a La Vida” during the AIDS epidemic and “Senora Libertad” after the 9/11 attacks showcased Beto’s commitment to spreading hope and unity through his music. He has also participated in tribute songs, fundraisers, and charity events dedicated to causes such as victims of drunk driving and abused and neglected children.

Despite facing personal challenges, including a severe stroke in 2012 that affected his motor skills, Beto’s resilience and faith have allowed him to overcome adversity. He released his own album, “Bendiciones,” with his band Beto Ramon Y Luna Llena, showcasing his unwavering dedication to his craft and his steadfast belief in the healing power of music.

Beto continues to write and create music today, with his compositions available on various digital music platforms. As the CEO of Luna Llena Music Publishing in Lagarto, Texas, he is actively involved in publishing his own material and supporting other artists.
