Los Hooligans are a family of musicians that have established Conjuntoville in California. The group from Fresno, California includes a father and son, 57-year-old father, Israel Treviño II, and his 33-year-old son Izzy Treviño III.
Los Hooligans were formed in 2011 and I first got the chance to see them perform in San Antonio at the 2019 Tejano Conjunto Festival and was amazed by their overall talent, sound, and groove.
The music roots of the Trevino family began in the 1980s, when Israel Treviño Sr. and his brothers formed the bands Conjunto Del Valle and Conjunto Ideal, but eventually called it quits.
“In 2006 they got back together and I jumped in on bajo, and as members came and went that’s when I decided to form Los Hooligans in 2011,” Izzy tells Tejano Nation. “I chose the name Los Hooligans because every band member has their own kind of rebellious persona to them. I’d classify our music as Conjunto but with a stroll.”

Izzy was always around music since he was “in pampers” when his father Israel was a part of Conjunto Ideal. Izzy learned to play bass at the age of 8 and was introduced to his favorite instument, the bajo sexto, at age 13 by his grandfather. Izzy started his career with the family band, Conjunto Ideal, alongside his father. He added his skills to other California-based bands including Conjunto Sagrado, Bandido, Luz Maria y Tatuaje and Conjunto Califas.
“I created Los Hooligans to carry on the family tradition, and make my mark in the Conjunto world,” said Izzy.
Los Hooligans include Izzy on bajo sexto, drums and segunda voz. His father, Israel Trevino II, on bass and lead vocalist with Vincente Treviño as the accordionist, releasing their debut album in 2011.

“My dad is my best friend, and it brings us even closer sharing the same passion for Conjunto music,” said Izzy. “It’s truly a beautiful feeling being able to share the stage with my father like he did with his, and I will do the same with my son. I’ve seen and played with a lot of different bass players over the years, but my pops is still my favorite. We know each other’s style, so our groove is always solid.”
The conjunto recently finished their sophomore album with another one in the works.
Izzy considers the late Esteban “Steve” Jordan as a huge influence. “My all-time favorite album would be The Many Sounds of Esteban, because that was the bajo tape I’d play for hours and hours.”
Los Hooligans play throughout California but venture out of state to perform from time to time and are very passionate about music. “I was fortunate enough to share the stage with Flavio Longoria at the 2019 Tejano Conjunto Festival in San Antonio, which was a dream come true,” said Izzy. “If you play music, do it with a purpose. Music is expressed in how you play, and songs deserve to have meaning, so play with the heart or kick rocks!”
