Destiny Navaira
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Destiny Navaira, a member of Remedio, released her newest single “Dame Dime” during a radio interview on Wednesday night.
Following the release of Remedio’s debut album “Siempre Cantando,” Navaira felt it was crucial to give something to the fans that was just as authentic and from her heart.
“This song takes you through the journey of a relationship,” Navaira said. “It’s a fun cumbia you can dance to and it’s catchy!”
During her feature on Mas Mujeres, Mas Miercoles Musicales with TejanosBest.com’s Mingo Mariano, Navaira touched on the importance of women in the Tejano music industry.
“There are a lot of women in the industry today that don’t get a lot of radio play, including myself, and its important that the industry professionals hear our voice,” Navaira said.
With the last name Navaira, Destiny explained how much work must be put forth in order to separate herself from being just “Raulito’s daughter”.
“In our family you don’t really ‘decide’ you want to do this,” Navaira joked. “I am never ashamed to use my last name but at the same time I have to work that much harder to prove myself.”
With her father, Raulito Navaira, and uncle, Emilio Navaira, being such icons in Tejano music, many think she is attempting to piggyback off of their success.
“I think it’s funny when fans approach me after a show and say ‘Mija, I didn’t expect that’,” Navaira said. “They see that I am another generation of Navaira and they doubt my talent.”
Tejano music is ready for another powerful woman to take fans to another level and Destiny is that woman.
“I’m working on more tracks and I can’t wait to share them with the world,” Navaira said. “I know this is what I was born to do and it is my time to prove it.”
“Dame Dime” was written by Destiny and her brother Rigo Navaira.
