CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – This year’s Fiesta de la Flor, a signature Corpus Christi event honoring Selena Quintanilla Perez and hosted by the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau, will be enhancing the overall festival experience and offering new features for guests. Not only will there be amazing Grammy Award-winning Latin musicians entertaining the crowds, but there are also a few additions that will make this year a truly memorable experience.
A new attraction that festival-goers won’t want to miss is the Silent Disco, located in the Upper Gallery of the Art Museum of South Texas. This exciting element, popular at large music festivals around the world, will create a unique club-like setting where guests can enjoy dance-worthy beats from Corpus Christi’s own internationally-recognized DJ and Producer, El Dusty.
El Dusty, recognized by Rolling Stone Magazine in 2015 and most recently by Billboard magazine as one of “5 New Latin Acts to Watch”, will be spinning his signature nu-cumbia sound, a new genre of Latin-inspired digital beats, making the Silent Disco one of the hottest attractions of the festival.
Another splash of local talent that will be added this year is DJ AuDeo, an up and coming DJ that will be providing her unique sound to festival-goers from the Main Stage in between band sets. AuDeo is thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase her talents at Fiesta de la Flor and honor a Corpus Christi icon with her passion for music.
Especially exciting for 2016 is the McDonald’s Fiesta Tour: Annual Latin GRAMMY® Experience that will be featured at the festival. Through its relationship with the Latin Recording Academy, McDonald’s exclusively presents a series of consumer interactive areas that bring to life the joy and passion of Latin music. The fifty foot-plus exhibit consists of interior elements such as a recording studio photo booth, memorabilia displays and trivia games. This unique museum-on-wheels honors Latin music greats. The McDonald’s Fiesta Tour bus will visit 19 cities in 2016, including its debut in Corpus Christi at Fiesta de la Flor.
Also growing for 2016, El Mercado, the Latin-inspired international market, sponsored by attorneys Herrman and Herrman, will host more than seventy-five artisans from Mexico, Central America, South America and the United States. This year’s collection of artisans has nearly doubled in size and reach, as the vendors are traveling from distances even further away to offer their uniquely crafted items at the event. This year’s market will be held inside the American Bank Center, allowing for more space and protection from the elements.
The La Plaza, sponsored by Stripes, also will be taken to a new level this year with nearly thirty food trucks available serving up a variety of cuisine to guests. Participating food truck vendors will be traveling from Texas cities such as Houston, Austin and San Antonio.
For the festival-goer looking for a little relaxation, Selena the movie will be featured throughout the weekend at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. inside the auditorium named in her honor at American Bank Center.
