According to entertainment industry sources, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” star Christian Serratos has been cast in the coveted role of Tejano icon Selena Quintanilla-Perez in the upcoming Netflix series based on her life.

Serratos, who will turn 29 a month from today, is of Mexican and Italian descent and is best known for her role as “Rosita” in “The Walking Dead,” now in its tenth season. Serratos also starred in the “Twilight” saga series of movies as “Angela,” a close friend of superstar Kristen Stewart’s character, “Bella Swan.”

Entertainment news site, Vulture, first reported on the casting and said they learned the news from “a source close to the show.” Serratos does closely resemble Selena with her long dark hair, full lips and almond-shaped eyes. See for yourself on her Instagram.

On its site, Netflix posted the following description about Selena: The Series:”  “As Mexican-American Tejano singer Selena comes of age and realizes her dreams, she and her family make tough choices to hold on to love and music.”

Selena was most famously portrayed on the big screen in 1997’s Selena by mega-star Jennifer Lopez. On the smaller stage, a play about Selena’s life, Selena Forever, cast Veronica Vasquez and San Antonio’s own Rebecca Valadez to play the Queen of Tejano.

Netflix has yet to announce a release date on the series.

Tejano Nation reached out to Q Productions for confirmation, an employee had no comment on the casting.
