Top 5 Nominees Announced for 37th Tejano Music Awards

The Top 5 nominees for the 37th Annual Tejano Music Awards were announced on Thursday (Oct. 5).  Stefani Montiel, Jay Perez and Jimmy Gonzalez Y Mazz tied for the most nominations with three each from the nine music categories at this year’s award show.

Montiel was nominated for Song of the Year with “¿Quien Quiere Shots?”, Tejano Album of the Year for La Dueña, and Female Vocalist of the Year.

Perez and Gonzalez were both nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year, as well as Song of the Year, “Un Amigo Tendras” for Perez and “Agua De Papaya” for Gonzalez.  They were also nominated for Tejano Album of the Year, Un Amigo Tendras for Perez and Que Cante El Mundo for Gonzalez.

La Sombra de Tony Guerrero also received three nominations. Male Vocalist of the Year for Guerrero, Song of the Year for La Sombra with “Mi Cumbia” and Tejano Album of the Year for Look Who’s Back.

Newcomers Veronique Medrano and Ricky Lopez of Dezigual received two nominations each. Medrano is nominated for Best New Female and Best New Group with The Puro Party Band. Lopez received nominations for Best New Male and Best New Group with Dezigual.

Tejno legends David Farias and Gary Hobbs also received two nominations. Farias for Male Vocalist of the Year and Conjunto Album of the Year for Volando Alto. Hobbs picked up nominations for Song of the Year with his cover of “Amor Eterno” and Male Vocalist of the Year.

The 37th Tejano Music Awards and Dance take place at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Saturday, October 21, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. Tickets and more info are available at TejanoMusicAwards.com.
